Opossum

Any ideas on trapping an Opossum without catching a cat? I didn't worry so much when the critter lived in the shed, but now I find poop on my hay. It's got to go!

I was thinking more along the lines of what kind of bait to use that a cat would not be interested in.

I gave canned cat food to everybody in the barn 'til they were full, then scraped the rest into the very back of the trap.
This morning, no opossum, no cat food.
Taking more time to check it out, wondering if it took more weight. You sure do have to get almost to the very back before it springs. Is there a way to use a thin piece of wood as leverage, make it trip just a bit sooner?

I've never caught an opossum but marshmallows work great for raccoons & cats aren't interested in them

You could put a wire thru them & attach to the back of the cage to make it more difficult to get them out, making it more likely the trap will shut
Good luck!

Before I get the chance to post the trap video, I get the job done. Smeared peanut butter on a piece of pizza crust.
Now what? Should I try to cover it, then how far away is best?

I would have co-existed, except for pooping on my hay and carrying EPM.
I made sure to relocate him near a creek.

So, how about opossum II.
Went in hay room, heard scrambling and shook my head. It was hiding behind the container I store dog and cat food in.
Went in the house to get pizza crust w/ peanut butter. Grabbed trap out of truck and went back to the barn. Amazing, it was still there.
Okay, the containers are Rubbermaid type, 20 gal "cans" w/ lids. I keep them in a corner. Small enough area, opossum was trapped when I put the trap on the other side of the cans, away from the corner. Anyhow, way easier said than done, I used an old broom stick (minus broom part) to shove his little but into the trap. I had already put the pizza crust in.
In the video I discover I say how cool is that more than I realized.

First video of opossum I, second of opossum II. I'm thing II is bigger than I.
The third shows where I let them go. If you look carefully you can see moving away and disappear into the grass.

Thank you.
There has been one out by my front porch. When I go near it heads for the road. I'm not as worried if it stays up here, but I'd better try to trap it just to be safe.
