Cayenne Pepper?

Apparently my barn owner has horrible luck with picking up horses who wont sweat... Generally, I'd give the horse a beer, and voila. Sweat. But this mare, for some strange reason, wont sweat. The part that gets me, is her lack of winter coat...

Anyhow, somebody (a previous boarder) had mentioned feeding Cayenne pepper to horses with anhydrosis.... Has anybody else heard this before? I just can't fathom my horse eating the stuff...

Considering it's what is in alot of the anti chew stuff, I'm guessing the horse is going to not be interested in eating it.

I actually didn't even think about that!

I know somebody who had a horse with anhydrosis. She gave him a daily supplement that helps horses with anhydrosis. I forgot what the name of it but it was like $40. She said that she got it either from one of the feed stores or ordered it online.

As for the winter coat thing I have been told that some horses just don't get fuzzy. We have a few at my barn, and Diego is one of them.

Well, the whole objective is not to have to buy more supplements... All her horses are on SmartPaks already, and she doesn't want to spend anymore money on supplements... Being that beer helps make horses sweat, that's the route she took... I was just curious to know if anyone had ever tried the Cayenne pepper on a horse with Anhydrosis...

Can't help with the sweating problem...

MOST Chestnut/Sorrel horses I see don't grow a really thick winter coat.
Or a lot of hair in general for that matter.
She wouldnt happen to be a chestnut would she? :laughing6:

Nope, solid bay... Though, 2 of the 5 chestnuts at my barn have no coat; the other 3 have light coats... All the bays are wooly mammoths except for this particular one... The black has no coat, either... Such strange fur growing ways...

Are the lesser woolies standing close to barn lights that are on 18 hrs day? This can disupt the coat growing process.

Wwell the AC-1[for non sweaters] is pretty reasonable through SmartPak.
I have no idea about it working-seems they would NOT like the taste. Never heard that home remedy.
