What is he? I'm on a quest!!

One of the pages I have liked on Facebook was my county animal shelter. On August 13th they posted "Ike" a sweet little hound mix that I fell head over heels in love with! Chris and I had decided to get another dog and we'd been casually looking. We went to meet Ike that Saturday.

I was smitten, so was Chris. We adopted him and brought him home, we renamed him Ruger. They had him written as "Hound Mix" but just out of curiosity I'd like you guys to see what you think... before you scroll to the pictures here are some personality traits etc....

- Wednesday October 3 he will be 4.5 months old approximately
- Currently, he weighs approximately 25 pounds
- Currently, he is 17in long from shoulders to rump
- Currently, he is 16 in tall shoulders to floor
- When he walks his tail is straight up in the air
- He is VERY alert, and you can see a guarding instinct in him, when we are outside Koda is running around like an idiot with his toys but Ruger would rather lay and observe things...for the most part. He is still playful.
- He does not howl, or bay. He barks.
- He has got a nose on him! He has to smell EVERYTHING. He likes to "track" the cats.
- He will nip Kodas heels and shoulder to TRY and get what he wants
- He is very smart, but very stubborn and can be defiant despite routine training.

Maybe a doberman....blue heeler.... something? Once again, the pound just called him a "Hound Mix" and they estimated him to get about 60 Ibs or so.

He has Blue Healer in him for sure. Maybe some type of coon hound too.

He seems a bit small for a Dobie but obviously could have that in there somewhere. Also a Manchester Terrier has those same type of black and tan facial marks.

He sounds adorable and so glad you got him from the shelter.

We got our Bella from a shelter too. She looks like a 5month old black lab but has a nose like your Rugar too AND barks like a beagle. She is so loving and just sweet as can be. Smart as a whip but quite stubborn too.

Blue Tick for sure. Maybe even some Walker. But I would guess Doberman in there too by the shape of his head and color.

I'm seeing a lot of small dogs thrown in there, keep in mind he is only 4.5 months old! Wouldn't he be smaller?

Loving all the input whatever he is, I love the little booger! He's my purebred mutt! LOL

Right now I see Cattle Dog and Terrier (like Jack Russell)

I'm not ruling out Beagle yet, they come in mottled color too.

I'm not seeing Blue Tick, the legs would be stockier at 4 months old.

Thank you! They are both rotten... and there are toys everywhere in my yard and they fight over the same tennis ball. It kills me. Koda is definitely happy to have a friend though.

Hound mix no doubt.....I think others are confusing the coloring to be Cattle dog or Aussie, but I think blue tick type hound....loose rule of thumb....take what they weigh at 4 months and double it (at least in my breed) and that will tell you a guesstimate of size....my 16 wk old Malinois girl puppy was just over 20 at 16 weeks and so will be a smidge over 40 as an adult....and I think that is a fair guess....

He's my rat terrier in disguise Honestly I swear you described Tori to a T. He kind of looks like her too, head shape that is not so much in the body or color.

Be consistent with your training. He's adorable!

I see blue tic, and I would lean towards min pin type, rather than dobie, but whatever he is he is ADORABLE.
