New to owning in the US!

I'm originally from England, rode horses all my childhood (mostly cross country and some endurance trials) until I moved to the US in 1994. Now, 13 years after that move, I just bought my first "American" horse, a six year old paint (unregistered) gelding who I'm hoping will teach me all about trail riding! I'm learning (slowly) about Western tack, keeping a horse in a corral facility instead of on a farm, and other fun things like how to find a vet, farrier, feed merchant, etc etc in Las Vegas - not the horsiest town in the country, that's for sure! Anyway, I've been reading a lot on these forums and learning a TON of useful things, so hopefully I'll get up to speed on my new buddy pretty soon.

Here's Romeo, aka Mo (for the "M" on his shoulder):

Welcome aboard, but you should have bought a different type horse.

Paints, quarterhorses, and Appys have a heck of a time with accents...you've got to learn to say "Whoa, y'all" with a drawl...

Thank you, everyone, for the welcome - one thing I've noticed about this forum is the friendliness and advice offered is really great!

I think Mo is pretty cute, though being six, he's definitely a stubborn and wilful beastie at times, but we seem to be learning each other's habits and cues. I'm currently "out of the saddle" after a fall on the trail last week which tore a rib muscle, but we're working on the lunge line and I turn him out daily so he can stretch his legs.

And is there any way to stop a mostly white horse rolling in his own poop??? And assuming there isn't (his stall is mucked out daily, sometimes twice, but I swear he poops and rolls immediately in it), how do you get poop stains out of a white coat? Oh wait... I'm sure I can find the answer somewhere on this board - I know I'm not the only one with that issue!

Coming in late to this welcome!

Welcome from North Texas from a very jealous former Las Vegan...

Owning horses in Vegas isn't common, but I grew up with horses about 46 miles North of Vegas... I miss being able to just hop on my horse and ride off into the desert, as far as I wanted, for as long as I wanted...

I miss sand too...

Welcome again!
