Hello from a newborn

Hello-I am a 49 year old nurse living in Delaware. I have 4 human children and a dog, and for the first time in 35 years, I have no horse! I am looking - carefully! We are in the process of renovating an old house and selling our old one, so time is short!
It is nice to be a member of your group!
Okay, I'll jump right in with a request from others about a situation....
I am going to look at a horse tomorrow. He seems to be what I am looking for, but he is a "very light cribber." So, what do I look out for? He does not wear a collar, looks to be in good (5-6 body condition) weight, I will check his teeth. He apparently does not crib outside; in his stall, if he has no hay, once in a while (perhaps 2 or 3 times in an hour period) he bites the edge of something, but does not ever make that sucking grunt noise at all.
If I like him otherwise, I will leave a deposit and get him vetted, while I am able to be there, and have the vet examine him with the cribbing issue in mind. Any other suggestions, other than turn around and drive away as fast as I can? Thanks, and talk to you all later... Midnightjan

Hi, welcome! I have absolutely no advice on cribbing, but it sounds like you are doing just the right thing, asking the vet about it when he comes out to vet him if you like him. If that is the only thing you don't like about him, and the vet thinks it is not a big deal, I think it would be OK not to drive down the driveway as fast as you can!
Good luck on your horse search! I hope you find your equine soulmate!

Welcome from TN - and I am going to agree with the others. Cribbers are also usually non-cribbers if you can keep them in a wire fence turn out.. but if it is not affecting the horse's health, and the animal is great otherwise, not an issue, IMO, to turn down the horse

Good luck - post pictures of him if you buy him - you know how we love to see horses here

Welcome from Kentucky,we have a cribber, but only if hs eis left in stall and has access, she wears cribbing collar year round, but she doesn't do it as long as she is able to be free. A vet check is always a good idea unless you know the seller and trust them completely. Our horses came from the barn owner where we took lessons and we knew about the horses and if there was a problem with them.

Hi-Thanks for all your greetings!
Regarding the criibbing horse; it was POURING the day I was going to go see him, so I didn't drive 3 hours to go see him since it was too wet to ride, and--- you guessed it---he was sold that day.
So, I am still looking for a horse! Here are my hopeful qualities:
black and white paint, spotted draft, or draft cross
or
Bay Clydes type cross, but not too big
between 15.1 and 16 hands and big bodied
between 6 and 12 years of age
DEAD BROKE and quiet on trails
English or western doesn't matter-I ride mostly trails, group rides with my friends, fun and easy for my horse
I live in central Delaware, so not too far away- I want to be able to ride him or her first before buying.
Thanks!!!! Janet Happy Easter!
