Hello from North Texas!

This forum came highly recommended by my good friend, Hola, so I figured I should branch out from my usual forum spots - Nice to see such a friendly board!

My name is Rachael, but it's easier to type RL so whichever you prefer. I have three horses at this point, two paints and a quarter horse. I started riding when I was 12, doing hunter/jumpers. I then moved to barrel racing after buying my first horse, Dusty. In the years since then, I've trained with some of the top reiners and western pleasure riders in the area and I also tried eventing for a while. I'm adoring the reining and I think I'll pursue that, but I'm always changing my mind. Lately I've been laid up after fracturing my hip and tearing my ACL after bailing from a bucking stud I was working with. I'm just starting to get back to training my mare...four months later!

I lived in the suburbs of Dallas my entire life and two years ago moved up to the Sherman area. I've got ten acres and now that the house is almost done I can start working on the pastures, get a barn built, and get an arena and round pen together! HOORAY!

Anyway, I've got the three horses. Dusty is the oldest, at 22. He's been a lesson horse and was on a trail string before I bought him and turned him into the wonderful barrel horse he was. He is afflicted with DSLD, however, so he's been soley a pasture ornament for the last couple of years. We're also currently battling an infection from a cut that occured this spring and seems to want to stay. (You can see in the photo. It was bad.) He's a true love and I've never had a bond with a horse like I have with him.

Sissy is my rescue, and at 18, she's a lifer with me. I got her "with the house" and when I moved in she was locked in a 10'X10' mud filled pen on the back of the property with no shelter or water. She's obviously been abused..her trust with me is still shaky after two years, but we've made tremendous strides. I'm the only one able to ride her..and I have a feeling she'll always be jiggy, but I do enjoy her very much. She's one of those "i-want-to-make-you-happy" horses. A heart of gold and a gorgeous color to match.

Sassy is my young mare, an eight year old who really lives up to her name. I love her, but she has a temper! Very calm undersaddle and in hand - in the pasture, she wants nothing to do with you. She was originally purchased to be a barrel horse (she can FLY), but lately we've been working with a reiner and putting some more handle on her. She's my "guest" horse as well.

Outside of horses, I enjoy my shopping (hah!), fashion, nutrition, finance, and traveling. Glad to be a part of the forums!

Welcome from Missouri! Glad you have taken in the horses that you have and you have what it takes to understand and work with them. They are all beautiful, ahem handsome for your boy on top, who is my personal favorite by the way. I love the oldies but goodies. Look forward to hearing more from you.
