Hello from NEW YORK!!!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to intrduce myself. My name is Marcie and I am a 23 year old undergraduate student from upstate New York. I have read many of the posts and would like to express how excited I am to have come across Horsetopia.com. There are so many horsepeople here that seem so knowledgeable and helpful.

I think I was born with a love of horses. When I was a little girl, the only thing on my Christmas list every year was a pony. Well, my parents did not fulfil my request for the animal...they did however get me lessons (English/Hunt Seat was my discipline of choice) and told me that if I stuck with it and could somehow pay for board (Our home being in a no horse zone), then they would consider buying me my first horse. I joined 4H which was almost a foreign culture to me seeing as how my father was a corporate buisnessman and native of Brooklyn (NYC), and I did some shows around the upstate New York area. I stuck with riding for a few years and it eventually got to be to much for me to keep up. I had been dancing since I was 2 years old (ballet, tap, jazz) and was at the studio 5-6 nights a week for 4-6 hours every night...when I wasnt practicing or training, I was all over the country competing and trying to balance school work. Alot for a little girl at the ripe old age of 12. High school came and went and I went of to college in the city (NYC).

I am now home, attenting college in Binghamton, and my mother has since purchased a new home equipped with 50 acres, a few ponds, and an absolutely beautiful barn (the home was listed as a mini horse estate). So as you can imagine, when this happened a little over a year ago, I was beyond thrilled. My only regret was that I had lost many of my prior riding skills and knowledge...but at least I knew that the passion was still there. My mother bought a TB mare and a QH gelding who are both beautiful, but I am still on my original quest to purchase a horse of my own. I have started taking lessons again from a wonderful trainer and it is all comming right back. I am no longer riding english, but have fallen in love with reining after attending a clinic about a month ago. I am looking to purchase a reining horse next summer (a little over a year from now) and I cannot wait to hear the tips and advice from all of you wonderful people here at Horsetopia!!

Thank you for listening!

Love,
Marcie

twins

treasure..I just love the twins, you are so lucky!! I had a set of pinto twin boys born, about 18 years ago. the small twin needed lots of special care, I had him in the house, bottle fed him, as the mare gave up on him, he was about 35 pounds&too week to stand for a few days. He lived about 2 weeks, I thought he would make it, as he got stronger, and could run around. followed me like a pup..sure loved that baby. He died at Cornell vet hospital, he developed seizures and sometimes would stop breathing while he slept. I used to sleep by him on a electric blanket, and shake him to get him breathing again. I took him to cornell when he got weaker, and he died there one night... I was devastated...you are lucky thay yours are strong and healthy.
