Hello from Oregon!

Any other Oregonians here?!

Let's see, I am owned by an almost 9 Percheron gelding. I am training him for medieval gaming (jousting, mounted swordfighting and other medieval games) but a lot of the time we just ride and 'play'.

I ride bareback because I can't find a saddle to fit him. He's about 2300 lbs. Not sure how tall he is because we don't have a stick big enough for him. I'll post a picture in the picture section of him.

I work for fish and wildlife to support my horse/medieval habit. I also do odd jobs at the barn where I board because I love working at the barn. Scooping poop can be good therapy!

Thanks for approving my membership here - looks like an active forum and I'm looking forward to participating!

SWEET!!!!!

Do you do it professionally????

I'm in the SCA - so ours isn't like the International jousting group.

I'm in the process of teaching Solon to go in a straight line and not be afraid of an oncoming horse....

You have to tell me more!

Our jousting organization is only popular in several states. Va, WVa and Md. In fact, it is the state sport of MD. There are several classes. Novice, Ameteur, Semi-pro and Pro. I will be dropping back to Ameteur this year because I have not competed in about 10 years. Marriage, children and showing APHA set me back a bit. When I go to my first tournament this year I will post pics and a big discussion.

I don't know why it is not more popular. No special horse or tack is needed. Lances are easy and cheap to make or get.

I don't know why it's not more popular either. Maybe people think there is a huge expense with the armor etc.

We just got approved for styrofoam lance jousting in the SCA. Don't laugh! It's a start. We'll probably never be able to beyond that becaue of insurance liability but it's a start.

I've been able to see Shane Adams and his troupe from Canada do some shows here. Amazing stuff.

Can't wait to hear about your events!
