Hi from Virginia

Hi everybody. I've been reading this forum for a few days now, and figured it was time I introduced myself. A year ago my husband and I bought a historical (pre-Civil war) farm in central Virginia. It's a "fixer-upper" but we're working on it.

Meanwhile, after waiting so long to have a place of our own, I've been adding livestock to the farm as quickly as possible. I'm now the proud "mom" of a flock of 13 Icelandic sheep, 3 Maine Coon cats, 2 dogs, and several horses. I grew up with horses, but had a long hiatus without them. Now that we have our own farm, I seem to be charging back into horse ownership with great enthusiasm!

My horses are:

Sully, a bay yearling colt, 3/4 Thoroughbred, 1/4 Clydesdale. I bought him this summer from a girl who rescued him from a breeder who was not feeding him. He was a skinny, drab bunch of bones then, but he has blossomed into a spectacular animal over the past few months.

Callisto, a grey/white tobiano weanling, Percheron/Paint cross, who has the sweetest calmest temperament in the whole world, and...

Andromeda, Callisto's sassy bay/white tobiano Belgian/Paint cross weanling half-sister.

I also just bought two adult black/white tobiano Percheron/Paint mares who are bred to a Spotted Draft stallion, so we'll have spotted draft babies come summer. But these mares haven't arrived yet. They are coming in about another week. They are already trained to ride and drive, so finally I'll have horses I can actually ride again!

I'll try to post pictures of my little herd in the "Meet the Horses" section.

looking forward to "meeting" all of you!

--Nancy

Hey there, I grew up and spent 25 years living in the Harrisonburg area of Va. What side of the mountains are you on? Welcome to horsetopia.

Welcome from Minnesota!

As always we LOVE photos of your horses, which you've shared in another post BUT I'd also LOVE to see pictures of your place, sounds like lotsa work BUT very rewarding. I lived in N VA for a couple years, drove over all over the state and I LOVED it! I'd move back in a heart beat if I could bring my family with me!

Welcome aboard! I went to the University of Virginia and then lived in NoVa for a year. I love Virginia (not so sure about the NoVa part!). Central VA is among the most gorgeous areas in the United States, and horse country, too.
