There were some nice trails near Manistique -- maybe Pine Marten (could be mountain) Run for one. it's been years since I've been in MI so that name could be wrong...

Pine Marten is a set of trails in the Hiawatha Nat. For. north of Manistique., only drove by, haven't checked it out. There's the Fox River pathway that connects with Pictured Rocks Nat. Lakeshore which is open to hiking and mt biking (and probably snowmobiles). Maybe it's the "shore" that's throwing me off in your description. I'm thinking of something along one of the Great Lakes.
