Another Step Forward *Update on bottom* (VID)

Well Glory n' I have accomplished another step to being closer to starting under saddle with a rider when she comes of age. I was messing around with her before riding her on kneeling/bowing and she actually laid down twice and happily chowed down on the grass. She seems to enjoy whenever the benefit to her listening involved a treat

So today she had an audience and she was an absolute pill and hard to work with. She cantered around the round pen, bucked, kicked, and just threw a hissy fit for about 10 minutes and finally had enough and decided she wanted to listen. Proceeded to work her both ways in voice commands and joining up and whatnots. All of which she did greatly

Then we went on to the mounting block having her know the difference between standing when I ask and following when I give her the OK and it's going great. So I progressed from just putting my foot in the stirrup to applying weight. I'm not the leanest rider out there so that's one reason I've really prolonged me getting on her as I'm mentally not comfortable starting her when she's as young as she is and the weight I'm at. So next summer is probably when she'll be started.

But basically she tolerated what I did no big deal it was like she'd been doing it all her life and it's pretty cool

And onto the pics

Getting cocky.

Waiting for her join up.

Glory: Grain... or owner?

Ok, owner.

Trotting in the other direction.

Joining up again.

Little pat reward

Typical put foot in the stirrup.

omg look at her face -- apparently she has a thing or two to say about what I'm doing lol silently.

Other side... never moved.

hehe thank you. As for my hair I really only 'cut' it once when I was like six... So I guess take away a year 18 years :P. Gets trimmed, but not much. Of course the only downside is it is in the way 24/7 if it's down

Good job all the way around! I love watching/hearing folks train their horses with so much respect and consideration for the horse's point of view. Rather than, "This is what the horse should learn and this is how I do it".

I'd hope so

I've had a few people who've broken horses in the past said that'd it be alright to get on her and either just sit on her or walk her around. The only repercussion is if she has a spaz out I'd be worried about her legs.

In the meantime it's been bowing, laying down, and lunging to pretty much sum up her work life right now hehe.

Well today was the day I decided to just take that extra step and simply swing my leg over and sit on her. She was a pill today again to work with but after several minutes of lunging she calmed down to a working demeanor. Like usual she's worked on bowing/laying down before the work and that's getting easier day by day.

So today with the audience of mom and dad I decided to try her. Gently stepped into the stirrup as I did the last few weeks. So finally I softly swung my leg over and settled in the saddle carefully. She didn't move forward or back. She did shift her weight left and right very subtly as if getting the whole concept. She turned her head around the side wondering what the heck I was doing.

But it was one amazing thing I got her to walk a few steps but I decided that'd be good for the day. She has no idea what taps on the side mean, she's all vocal, so I've got to work on that. But I was just so excited at her progress today I had to update n' share
