Laziness or sore??

I have just started my 2 yr old APHA filly under saddle. She is what I'd say a great WP prospect. She is a slow legged, flat mover also find her quite lazy. She wants to just plod along. Actually a good thing or preferred for WP it is usually easier to teach them to move out than to work at slowing them down.I have just started her under saddle on & off about 30days now.She walk, trots & just did a short canter once around the ring 2 rides ago.She is moving off leg pressure &has decent stop & back up.My trouble is she occasionally is having misteps/stumbles with a hind leg it doesn't stop her forward motion but you can feel & have seen her make a slip with a hind leg.As I said she is a lazy horse some days takes everything to get her moving with some kind of decent forward motion{she thinks awh this is just too much work} Finally have her starting to trot out better.
I don't really see lameness if there is it must be very subtle. This slipping she is doing do you think it is just probably her being lazy & not picking up her feet properly or that is it that she is possibly sore??
Today I road her & she did a mistep or 2,she was also in her very lazy mode. She doesn't do this every time we ride & I seem to think I see it happen less when she is actually working at moving out for me. I was thinking I should try her with some ground rails to trot over & help teach her to pay more attention to her feet.Oh & the longe line yes she is lazy mover on it too so just not when she has a rider. Any other suggestions?? or do you think i should have the vet evaluate her for lameness?
I have always started them in their 2 year old year to learn the basics then leave them till they are 3 for the more formal training & work shedule. She has pretty well learned the basics that I wanted her too so I won't be really riding her too much more & will be left till early in the coming year to resume her in training to get her more finished.

I would have the vet check her out just to be on the safe side.. but as you know, many lazy young horses can and will do that

I don't ride WP, but I sure am getting to the point where I like a filly like yours.. I would much rather have to move up then slow down.. She sounds like she is a great prospect..

Sometimes it takes them awhile to learn to balance themselves with a person on their back. Add that to her laziness and that may be her problem. If you have any concerns at all though, you should call the vet.

Why don't you do some flexions on your own (with the help of a friend) before calling the vet? it should give you some idea of soreness.

It could also be that she is going through a growing stage and she is a little clumsy as a result...hard to learn to balance on growing legs with a rider on board too.
