The Lew Sterrett I've heard of is the county jail in Dallas, Texas.

Depends on what you are looking to do with your horse - start, finish, specific descipline.. if you could provide more ifnormation on the horse, what he or she knows, and what you would like to accomplish, it might help folks give you some better ideas...

Are you looking for a personal trainer or one from books and training tapes? If you're looking for one from training tapes and books, i'd recommend; Curt Pate & Larry Trocha. I could mention a few more good ones, but it depends on what you want.

What type of riding - trail, pleasure, ranch, gaming? How old is the horse? What has been done previously with her? Groundwork? Leading? Tying? Anything?

Also, a trainer can't teach your horse to trust you - they can help teach you how to teach the horse, but you have to do the work. The trainer can teach the horse to trust them, but you have to do the footwork to get a horse to trust you!

She is untrained. Eight years old. I want to do all the work myself.

Larry Trocha has some wonderful videos, his website is www.horsetrainingvideos.com . Another is Chris Cox at
www.chris-cox.com . Craig Cameron is also real good at www.craigcameron.com . If you ever get around to wanting to read a book, Curt Pate has an awesome colt starting book. Good Luck.

If you're talking about the Lew Sterret that does Sermon on the Mount up in PA, I was just there for a year. I learned a lot of great stuff and had a blast doing it. By the end of the year I was starting my horse on bridless and liberty work. They have a lot of retreats go through there if you want to check it out for yourself. The first time I went up there was for a horselovers retreat, but there are also retreats for trainers if you were more interested in that. They also do summer camps, which my sisters have gone to for the past three years. It is a really great place. If you don't already have it, their site is http://www.miraclemountainranch.com/. Any other questions, I'd be glad to tell you more about it.

I just got back from a three day clinic led by Steve Rother and would highly recommend his materials. He is very good at explaining what he's doing and why. He has DVD's available on his website: www.horseteacher.com . His approach is not so much different from the other top trainers, but he does make it very clear.

Lew is a great trainer. He definitely values ground work and manners. All the horses I've worked his way are great on the ground, unfortunately most of them are two young to start under saddle. I've had a few under saddle though and its pretty easy there too. I did his ground work with my 9 mo. old colt that had never been handled. Took me two weeks to touch him ( I went really slow), but now he won't leave me alone. Even when the other horse go running and bucking right beside him he just stands beside me. I also started an untouched two yo, the first time I put the saddle on her she walked around like she had always done it. I'll let you know in a couple of weeks how it goes when I get on her. If you want a nice, mannerly, trusting horse, his stuff is great and very easy to understand.

Thank-you. I have been looking at his stuff. I am really exited about his ministry too.
