Suggestions on why mare is moody?

I have a young (6) appendix mare. She is soooo cranky! I heard most of the training problems are from health issues, but what can be wrong with a green broke healthy mare? The most common things I hear are about saddle fit and teeth, but if these aren't problems then whats going on? Some days she doesn't want to be touched, others she's the most docile puppy dog, and others she is a wild-aggressive-nose blowing-crazy woman!

Do you keep track of her heat cycles?

That is what I have found in many of the young mares I have had. They are immature. Ask your vet about the Marble. It only cost me $40 and works like a dream. Makes the mare think she is prego. And stops her heat cycles. Some mares spit it out. Some keep it. But well worth a try. And cheaper then monthly meds. My mare spit it out the first time but accepted it the next. I had to catch her in the right time of her heat.

My friend's mare goes into rip roaring heats whenever a new horse is introduced to her herd! She kicks, strikes, tries to bite......She put her mare on Regumate.....that didn't work too well. They tried the Depo Provera shots....those seemed to help a bit........she's considering the marble....she's had the chiropractor out as well. Supplements like Moody Mare never worked for her either.
Some real acute cases get ovarioectomies (sp?) here at the hospital as they are almost dangerous.
Good luck with your girl....try the marble, it seems to work.

I think it's all part of owning a mare. Gracie was horrible, we have her on mare magic and that has really helped but she still has her moments, some days she just gets crabby and wants to be a witch.

Yeah I think its just mareish. They are like every other female on the planet. Mine is a total **&%@# right before she goes into heat. If I have to ride or anything those couple of days I work her butt off before I saddle her up. Takes the edge off and calms her down. Now for me its only 2-3 days a month. Well good luck!!
