A questionfor the TWH People

Please help explain to me the park pleasure and performance classes. What are the regulations, and what exactly are the judges looking for?

They look for action of the horse. How high it slings its front feet, the head nod, and how it gets under itself.

I'm not going to add anything more than that - I don't want to encourage participation in these cruel areas. The stacks (aka "pads" - but they aren't PADS as you would think of them) and chains that are required on the horses' feet and judging standards of these classes are not what I consider to be anything close to good horsemanship.

Here's a video of the type of class you're asking about:

I am familiar with walking horse terms and slang and what not. I'm not interested in working with chains n other torturous lazy methods. I am developing muscle on my twh by training him in dressage. This of course teaches him to engage his back end naturally. Currently I have a nail pad and a keg on my twh. I watched a couple of park pleasure horses and he goes identically like them. My farrier declares this pad/keg combo would be suited for park pleasure, and I couldn't find any clarity within the rules. so I dunno.

oh the video was of a padded class not park. I use to show twh so i know quite a bit about them, but more towards the racking part of it.

Hello i have shown in the walking horse classes for about 10 yrs. i have a padded horse plantation horse and country pleasure horse.
i love going to the shows . its so fun seeing who wins and trying to get my horses doing more then theres .
plantation class: the plantation shoe is a very heavy shoe that weights about 3 pounds each . the horse should have a high step and its head must shake at each step . its rear end shoud be up in under his self . he should be squating in his butt.

performance classes require a pad. with a chain under 6 ounces.
most people get there horse wearing a 4 ounce for the shows.
its the same as the plantation class but with chains and pads .

country pleasure is a class that requires nothing but a keg shoe.

light shod is a class with a light shod shoe .

all classes have ask for a flat walk and a running walk.

specialty means there is a canter and open means trainers can show in the same class.

is there anything else you are wanting to know ?

two wedges(nail pads) and a plantation shoe is limited preformance.
park pleasure is plantation pleasure with out the band .
the band is what helps hold the shoe on .
so plantation and park is the same thing.

teach your horse the spanish walk. its a dressage move .
i have taught it to my stallion and he picks his front legs way higher then he has ever . natrually.

I know all that. The class that I am not familiar with is the PARK PLEASURE class - it's a maximum 1inch pad/shoe combo. The pleasure is more like in between trial pleasure and plantation.

This is a park pleasure horse that has won:

Elvis goes identically (if thats a word) to this horse.

i thank you for all your info. thats good to know so that way i don't show up n get dq by the dqp. that is a very nice horse. However, when it comes to plantations and my twh, he gets really weighted down in the front end taht causing him to become VERY heavy on the front. He engages no rear end w/ plantations. He also gets really close in the front end, often brushing. The same thing happens with an actual toe weight. Right now his lil rigging (nail pad/ diamond keg toeweight, a total of 6oz each) keeps him light and walky. With this shoeing he moves identical to the horse on the video i posted earlier. If he's just on a keg he can get pacey. He's in the process of growing right now and is at the stage of being built down hill. Any recommendations? We're thinking about padding him, but not sure yet.

i have a simple fix for the pacyness when on a keg or light shod .
we have done this with alot of colts . put a size 1 or 0 plantation an the back feet.
it really makes them start working there rear end and gets there but down low.
dqp will not say anything as they never look and check the rear shoes .
if your looking to square a horse up this can do it .
we also put a plantation on or aqha 2 yr olds for a yr . it really definds the muscles. any way i hope this helps you
