Thumbs up Piper is learning!

I just had to share my news with some 'horsey' people. I rescued a 3-year old QH mare with a filly by her side a year ago. The majority of this year, I've been working with the filly and just letting mama (Piper) gain weight and relax while the farrier got her feet back in shape. Now that her weight is good and solid, her muscle tone is better and the feet are looking great, I started ground work with her.

It was clear Piper didn't have any idea what lunging was all about. I don't have a round pen, so I was just working her last night on the flat in the paddock. She was a little nervous about the whip, but was very curious and willing.

I just started slow and easy with her, and to my surprice, within 10 minutes, she was working (at a walk) both directions for me. And, she's starting to get "whoa". (I always like 'whoa'!!!) She was so light with her head that I could hold the lunge line with two fingers!

I worked her for only 20 minutes - I wanted to make the first session short and fun (and she got lots of scratches and rubbing as rewards). I am just so excited - she is very smart and was surprisingly willing for a 4-year old that has had little to nothing done with her.

I just wanted to share the news with people who understand the "addiction". Have a great day, everybody!!!!

That is awseome! Nothing can put you straight into a good mood like a great training session with your horse. Congratulations on a good well done!

That's great! All of your hard work getting her back into shape is paying off, and I am so glad you have found that she is smart and willing!
