Looking for trainer...

Ok, well came to an agreement with brad, If jake gets trained he can stay with me YEAH! but the catch is that he won't let me do it. So, Anyone know a good trainer in arkansas? I've never needed one before, so I'm kinda out of the "loop" on who would be good to use and who wouldn't....

Any suggestions, ideas, etc?

Thanks

Faceman might - he is on vacation, but if you send him a PM he may still have some contacts..

Oh, and what are some things I need to be asking these people I talk with? I know how I start young horses, but how do you know if the person is gonna mess with your horse once in that 30 days or if you actually get what you pay for?

Depends on what you want him to d..

With Peppy, we had done all the ground work - I wanted him ridden, no spurs, in a tom thumb, just a walk, trot, short lope in the pen, and a walk/trot on trails.. He did just what I asked, and Peppy came home in great weight, clean, happy, and good on the trails.. After my horrible experience with Hannah, I asked a lot of questions and asked for and checked references..

I have always found when in doubt, do nothing!.....

Take your time and do LOTS of research...talk with trainers & their clients..past & present if you can..watch them train & stop by at a show..especially in the schooling ring...

It takes so long to undo a bad past practice which is why I would only train w/someone unless I felt 110% ok with it!!...

When you interview a trainer, maybe the first question asked should be, when can I come and see my horse worked? If the trainer wants you to stay away for a couple of weeks, I'd stay clear of him.

I want my customers to be very involved in the whole training process. I don't care how often they come out, I have nothing to hide.

Cascy,
I don't really know of anyone in your area but I do know a couple of people that have sent colts to JW Luman in Leslie that were pleased.

I'm not really sure how far it is. It is just a little north of Clinton on Hwy 65. There is a guy in Hector that I have heard is good but I have also heard that he is pretty rough on them.
