Still no riding in sight :(

*sigh

Well, I've had my trainer here this afternoon; today, she did most of the work with Mark and I just watched....

Nope, she doesn't think he's anywhere near riding yet. He pulled the same sort of stunts with her as he did/does with me. The head comes WAY up, the shoulder comes in, and he steps sideways, when even attempting to mount.

Now, she showed me (over 1 /1/2 hours) how we are going to teach him, that, if he wanted to go sideways - sideways he would go. And gol And then go some more.

She thinks that something MAJOR happened to him before I got him - not our incident - but something rather fundamental - something we have to break through. In her words "we are going to start from scratch - we're going to assume, that he doesn't know the first thing about a rider mounting"

Did I mention, how much I like her?

Well, it looks like it will still be a few weeks before I get up on Mark - but BOY , I CAN'T WAIT!

You'll be surprised at how fast that breakthrough will come. And when it does, look out...Mark will outshine everything you ever expected.

I know...the same stuff was said about Tango, and we worked our bums off on ground work. Yes, we've got a long, long way to go, but he stood still for me to mount from the ground yesterday...just a promise of things to come.

You will be telling us about how great your first ride with Mark...and we'll all cheer with you. Just like we're cheering you on now!

Go Mark! Go, Gina!!! GOOOOOOO TEAMMMMMMMM!

Best-
Noni

Don't get discouraged things will get better and before you know your first ride will be here and you will do great!! My oldest grandddaughter had her second ride on her new mare last evening, and though it was short it was good. Keesha admitted she was a little afraid to ride her in field, afraid she would act up cause the other horses were eating in another area, but Sora obeyed all commands and Keesha was able to understand how obedient she was with her rider. She cantered her and loved it!! So hang in there!

I so admire your attitude and commitment to this horse - you WILL get there - and it sounds like you have a wonderful trainer to help you

Can't wait for those first photos of you in the saddle...

Ditto, I am so glad to see how patient and driven your approach is, it tells alot about you personnally! Glad to see that your trainer is training for lifetime, and not the moment. But when one of those moments do come what joy you will feel, to know it was all worth it!

You and your trainer are so smart to go back and fix this big hole in his training. Even if you could get on him now it would rear it's ugly head at some other inopportune time. always best to fix it now.

Thank you all very much for the encouragement. It isn't always easy to be patient

BUT - tonight, he nailed it! 6 times in a row (3x each side) he STOOD like a statue! Yes, twice the head came up a bit when my foot was in the stirrup but went right back down with a little flexing And, there was no shoulder coming into me, no feet moving, not even weight shifting! Whoohoo!

Jenny (my trainer) told me not to get greedy *sigh* so I left it at that for today and just gave him lots of rubs and hugs and just generally made a fool of myself

He actually looked pretty bored

Tomorrow we'll go back to lunging under saddle and pretend to mount after.

Yep! A good trainer knows when to quit! Keep up all the hard work. It will SO be worth it in the end.
