Start over some poles and do lots of excersizes over them then maybe if she's ready go over a small crossrail. That's what I did when I first started jumping. But that was 6 years ago.

Yep, start with poles, cavalettti, and then gymnastics. Also, if you can, lunge over small jumps to get her used to the timing and balance. Of course, you have to lunge without a lunge line or have very short standards to do this, or you will get her all tangled up.

Most of the people I know won't start jumping a horse until it's four or five.

Start with English/jumping lessons, then crossrails. If that's not an option READ everything you can get your hands on. JMO

It wouldn't hurt to do some trotting/cantering poles, but I don't start jumping... even x rails until 4-6 ( depending on build and vets opinion )
I've seen WAY too many great horses who were destroyed at a young age due to overly stressing them over jumps at too young of an age.
Never mind the joints/ligaments and potential hoof damage... I really think that 3 years is too young mentally. Let your horse be a horse, let him grow up... and when he's ready you'll have a talented and willing athlete as a companion!

i'd suggest that you get that horse in english flatwork lessons before you start jumping it. It's incredibly important that your horse has a good basis of flatwork before you start it over fences. i've seen too many people rush they're horses through the basics and just start jumping them only to run into problems further down the road.

all i want is for he just to have some knowledge(not trying to sound rude or mean) just if there is something in the way on a trail ride she can jump it and not never having to do it!! that’s all!! I have tried to get he to try a small dog size jump like a puppy golden retriever but she just veers a way from it!!

so yea thanks for the suggestions and i will try some on friday and let you know if it works!!!!!!

Try finding a small jump or log and lunging her over it. She may surprise you by totally understanding the concept already, in which case you can keep going. If not, she'll need more patient schooling about picking her feet up and over obstacles both on the ground and under saddle.
