For all you jumpers

Whats the highest jump there is you can do.

I found out that my farrier jumps, but I think he said 10 something like that. I forgot

I wanna know these things so I sound like I know what he talking about. Instead of just saying "wow" or "cool"

The highest I've seen is roughly 6'6-7 feet. I'm sure that it's physically possible to do higher, especially when a horse is at liberty... but it would take some serious talent to go higher.... 10 feet sounds a little high.

We have the down and out class at the local schooling show where they keep upping the one rail until the last horse clears it. The highest they ever got was 6 feet and it was an Arab that cleared it

Most likely had to give some encouragement to get over that fence. Typically, in Grand Prix shows...you see 6' fences and 6' widths.

I have been working with Casper for about a year on jumping. He is 15.2/15.3 and pretty long legged.

I started him off with very short jumps and have been working up gradually.

Now you have to realize that Casper insists on having a minimum of 3 feet on the ground at all times, so we have had some special challenges to deal with.

After a year, we are up to 18 inches, but I think he has the potential to jump 2 feet someday...

The record for the highest jump ever cleared it 8 feet 3 1/2 inches jumped by Fred Wettach Jr. on King's Own.

This is the site where I found that out:

Oh, My grade paint gelding LOVES to jump, How silly of me to insist on western pleasure as his career choice. I should have known with a biuld like his! Scout is perhaps a hair over 15hands he is a very easy keeper (fat) and has short little legs but OMG he can jump like a warmblood. He free jumps up to 5 feet, no pressure needed but I stopped there anything after that was to high for him and even at 5 feet I was waiting for an accident. I think there are times that a rider just has to know when to stop becuase once and a while a horse comes along that will litterally die to please you, this is Scout. I jump him under saddle at 3'6 and thats plenty high for me I think him jumping 5 feet is somthing in itself becuase he is so small. Plus he is a quite as a mouse and so far has never refused to jump. and we jump everything from trashcans-rivers-tarps- oh and his favorite the pasture fence! No matter if the jump is 1 foot or 3'6 he always jumps 'tucked up' and styled. I just wish I was more into jumping and less western... I could take him further I think

I wonder how the impact of landing after such as jump affected the legs later.
That's nuts!

Yes - it seems quite unfair to the horses to ask that much of them (the extreme jumping, I mean).

During my much much much younger years, we also had a jump off class, to determine winner. My saddlebred mare, 6 ft with ease. Of course she had so much practice on those 6 ft fences, we had a 6 foot paddock fence , she would jump in and out of, when ever she want to troll the neighborhood.
I wouldnt even try it now- older and wiser and finally got aliitle sense.

I think the most I used to jump when I was jumping was around 4'6', and that was more than enough for me...

My plan is to train Nicki Nick to jump after she comes back trainers... not right away, but eventally... he's going to go over the basics with her.

Did anyone notice the LACK OF HELMET in the pic of the 8'3.5" jump? Still, what an amazing horse. I thought 8'2" was the official record. It's been matched a handful of times, but never beaten (to my knowledge). I don't think riders are permitted to try for those high jumps anymore, officially at least. Who knows what goes on in some backyards when no one is looking?
