Right where we left off...

I have been really bad about not lunging Zippy... So today, I brought out the saddle and bridle (he hasnt worn either in quite a while, I think last time was back in Sept ). Tacked him up and took him instead of lunging in the round pen, lunged him on the line in the back of the pasture. All kinds of distractions for him, including 3 mares (one of which is IN ) and a grouchy gelding.

Anyways, he picked up exactly where I left off. It was like we hadn't missed a day of training. I was sitting there waiting for a buck, squeal, stop, try to holler to the girls, SOMETHING. It never came. So I ground drove him around, again he was great! He paid no attention to the distractions around him and was really focused. If anything, he has matured alot and is even quieter! *faints*

For a stallion that isn't even 3 and not having consistent training, I was really proud of him!

Man Im dying to get on him and ride! Alas, that will not come until after Jan 2008 when I get back from my A school (he will be 3.5 by then! ). *sigh*

What a great boy he is - I love Zippos - they are so smart and so sweet..and he is one of the best... Good for you!

Of course, if you loved us, you would have included pictures in this post...

*Goes off to console Hannah that there are no new Zippy pictures for her stall walls - sigh*

I know right! Sis in law has the camera, so no pictures.

Im gonna just shrivel up and die when I leave. I won't see any of my horses for 7 months. I just hope that my mares hold out until I come back! Seeing how they will all be due January and February.

I promise pictures soon Gbar! Tell Hannah not to hate me too much.

Congrats!! Another great horse! It looks like Zippo's are very smart! I was on my Zippo girl the very first time this Saturday and again on Sunday and like you, I was waiting for a buck... anything, and nothing happend... (thank god!). She was very relaxed and focused on my aids!

Can't wait to hear/read more about your training?

When are you leaving? Can't you take one (just one!) with you?

Yeah I love the Zippo horses. I leave June 19th for basic and AIT (Army Reserves). I can't take any of my horses with me, wouldn't have time for them even if I could.

I go to Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri for Basic training (June 19th to August 4th). From there I head straight to Ft. Sam, Texas for 19 weeks 3 days. I have no time in between to come home and visit. After my training/school is done my unit is in Jacksonville (about an hour from home). However I only have to be there once a month. The rest of the time I can work, go to school full time or whatever.

I have always wanted to be an Equine Vet and so that is what I am studying for. Im excited! But at the same time dreading leaving my horses, I cant even go on vacation for a weekend without worrying about them and wanting to come back home.

I won't even be here for my boy's first ride. He will be sent off to the trainers beginning of June right before I leave. I won't be here to see him under saddle until I get back.

you leave the day after Avery's birthday! So if I send you an invitation, you could maybe make the party, right? Just kidding, of course.

Sounds like you have a solid plan, which is awesome. And on top of having a solid plan, you've got a GREAT horse in Zippy. Can't wait to see how well he does in the ring... he's going to make SUCH a nice horse!

Sweet, party on! He will be 2 right?

The only thing I am really nervous about.. I would be so pissed if they tried to send me overseas in the middle of my studies. That happened to my sister, TWICE! She is still over in Iraq right now.

Yeah! It's gonna be HUGE, strippers and 5 kegs and... yeah, well not really. Probably lots of Cars stuff, that's his favorite right now. He says 'Aight-neen!' for Lightning McQueen and Bob (where that comes from I have no idea!) for Tow Mater... it's so cute!

And YEAH, I'd be MORE than a little IRATE if they did that... shoot, I'm mad that they've done it to HER and I don't even know her!

But before this becomes a political tirade, I think you'll do fine, and I also think you'll make an outstanding equine vet. I'd trust ya!

My nephew went through that. For his 3yr old birthday we did the whole Lightning Mcqueen theme too.I must say, my favorite character was Tow Mater. What, I love those movies! I even watch Finding Nemo all the time. Then he switched to spiderman, then to superman now he loves monster trucks.

Saturday night we all went up to Jacksonville to watch the monster jam. Huge trucks just jumping and going all over the place like some crazy maniacs. First time Ive ever been to anything like it. Isaiah was so excited through the entire thing.

Here in a couple of weeks my brother is being sent out on his ship until September. Hasnt told me where he is gonna go yet though. Last time they went out they went down to Brazil.

The monster trucks are the only 'adult' type thing Avery will watch. He'll watch the speedvision channel if I leave it on for quite a bit... I think he may like cars like I like horses.

Well with you around it won't be long before he is after horses too! Especially whenever you can finally move and get your own!

Well, if he doesn't go after the horses, that's fine by me. My dad raced motocross for a long time and his main love in his life is motorcycles. Cranky Old Man is fully in love with cars, like I love horses. So Avery's got the 'bellering black smoke' in his blood.

And a motorcycle doesn't keep eating if he decides he'd rather play football than ride it or spend time with it!
