longing question

Hey all,

I have a question to lunging (sp?) my mare. She never spooks, and is only afraid of the coke machine. when shes on the line, i crack and crack with the whip, sometimes crack her a little bit with it and she just walks and stops?

Thanks

Sorry guys just got back from work. Anyway, at this point, trot or canter, doesnt matter, because she wont do either without you practically hitting her full force with the whip. question is, How can i get her to go?

Where are you standing in relation to her body when you longe her??

You need to be behind her girth area and pointing the whip towards her hip.

If you get ahead of her girth your body language is actually telling her to whoa.

I bet some of the Parelli people can explain this better than I can ~ I'll only confuse you more

Sounds like you could be standing in the wrong place to impel her forward. Try standing in line with her hip to help move her forward.

Also, try not to touch her with your whip. Even if she doesn't move, try other methods of encouragement. Maybe you can tie a plastic bag to a buggy whip and use that as motivation. It works beautifully for Jack.
