Round Pens?

Hi HT!!
i havent posted much on here latley .

well a friend of a friends wants to give me a round pen becasue she just got out of horses (what a shame ) and knows that i have horses.

She never put it up, it just sat in her barn
She said that her husband could could put it up and everything. Im not sure what she wants for it but she said that she was going to cut me a deal knowing that it would get use out of it by someone she knew.

i think she said it was 27' diameter but i could be wrong

i orignally told her that i had no use for it but she said there was plenty to do with it

i could lunge, ride, turn out, etc etc

Now for the question:

in my opinon 27' would be too small, but i was just ondering if any one has a similar size round pen, and what they use it for

and

Could you ride in it?

thanks guys!!!

It is a good size to free lunge in without wearing you out! I would take it if I were you... Also a good pen if someone gets hurt and needs exercise but can not be turned out with the rest...

Most round pens are 50 to 60 feet in diameter.

The smallest I have ever seen for sale is 40 feet and that is a little tight IMO..

27 feet is definetly too small to ride in, safely.

Standard size roundpen is 60 feet. Smallest I have heard of/used was 40 feet- and 40 feet is hard to canter in. But yes a 60 foot roundpen is very nice to ride in- especially the youngsters/troublemakers!

If it is one you could add panels to, take it and little by little add panels until it is of a size you want. Instant Starter Kit

Meanwhile, like GbarM posted, it could be a place to keep one who needs to be separated from everyone else.

i could always use it for free lunging like or a ring type thing for boo booed horse like gbar said or something like an isolation pen for new comers until made sure they arent carring parasites or anything disease thing

thanks guys for the advice!
