Competitive trail Riding is SO much fun. I would recommend sites like NATRC (North American Trail Ride Conference), SEDRA (South Eastern Distance Riders Association), (Which was started by my BF over 20 years ago!) and ECTRA. All excellent sites with tons of good info to get you started. I DO know CTR has a time limit that is MUCH shorter than Endurance Racing. There is a window you have to come in between. If you are too early or too late, even by 30 seconds you are disqualified. Horses are vet checked the night before and several times during as well as after the ride. You must maintain certain pulse and respiration parameters or the veterinarians have the right to pull you and you cannot continue. CTR the horses are started at intervals where Endurance racers all start at the same time. There is so much more but it would take volumes to discuss it. Junior riders MUST have an adult sponsor and if the adult pulls the junior must find another sponsor or pull as well. CTR makes no forward progress unless you are mounted where endurance can get off and walk the horse. Lots of differences in the two but both are a blast. Hope this helps. You can PM me for more info.
