Holy crap!!!!!

A couple of boarders and I went riding the other day. Been raining like mad pretty much all summer and none of us have had a real good ride. We left at 8 am getting back at 6.

My delima was who to take, deal with Rosies stupidities but if we ran into a bear, I'd survive or take Tia and have a great calm ride with no issues but in case we met up with a bear, I did not want to be 20kms away from home if I fell. Rosario it was , long story short he did the whole ride with his manhood in full extension for everyone to see . I can't put all blame on him as the mare we were with, was relentless and trying to get him to mount her and well, kept waving "that" in his face, she knew exactly what she was doing and would not listen to her rider but that's a whole other story

Anyway.....5:30 rolls around and I really should have been back for when Andre got home to at least start dinner . I told the girls I would paso the rest of the way home and they could walk as it wasn't fair to them to have to keep up. Off we go and him still a dink, won't go in a straight line criss crossing the road. We finally get to the trail that leads to the back of my property, we weave in and around the trees finally getting to my land. So as we are clipping along at a pretty good pace, his head picks up all alert and I'm like "WTH is Rex doing back here????" (now remember this all happened in a split second). He now stops and I'm thinking in my head "nope not Rex, too black . I kid you not the flipping bear was not 200 feet away from us quietly eatting blue berries. Didn't even hear us comming. I holler out "GEEEEET" and he looks up still not seeing us so again I holler out "GEEEEET GO ON" and off he ran into the bush. Not once did Rosario move or act stupid with him right in front of us.

So although he was complete all day, he really came through when REALLY needed .

OMG!! I can't imagine a bear, either. How often do you see them?

What a good boy! He really came through!

I can't imagine BEARS having to be a concern when riding! My biggest concern is if Opie is going to freak out over squirrels and joggers, somehow I don't think we could survive a bear!!

Surprisingly enough never. Everyone I know freaks out cuz I ride alone a lot and it doesn't phaze me. In the 4 yrs I've been riding seriously, I have seen bear 3 times. Twice 2 yrs ago (not alone), momma and a set of twins (2 days in a row but in different locations) and 3 days ago. I am no worried. I find it strange to that Quilla wasn't scared of the bear or moose (saw them twice) either so I rode her mostly.

Now what seems to scare Rosario the most regarding wildlife are the phasants/partridge . You have no ideas how many times I've almost been tossed when they attack .

Around here those are called "diner bells" . I ride sometimes with my dog but lately it's been too hot so I leave her at home.

Maybe Rosario thought it was a big dog. Either way, he came through for you.

We also have bear as well as moose where we ride.

I too just recently encountered a black bear in the Ocala Forest. I was riding with my sister and he crossed the path about 30 feet in front of us. Both of our horses just stopped dead in their tracks - and wouldn't move forward for about 5 minutes. (making sure he was really gone!) We were lucky too - maybe the scent of bears is not scary to horses??? It seemed wierd that they didn't react more but like you - sure glad they didn't.

Deer are the scariest thing we have to deal with, and that is just for the spook factor. I can't imagine riding with the thought that not only could something spook Buggsy, but eat us as well!

What a good boy!
On Monday my moron spooked at another horse and wanted to belt for home!
I find that it is the moose that seem to terrify the horses, I don't know if it is smell or what (the old timers here will tell you that moose try to mount mares, but somehow I doubt that one)
Anyway, sounds like a fabulous ride, our summer has been wet and disgusting as well.
