I tried to get the courage up...

to go out and ride this evening since it's been about a week and half since I rode jake last

But when I walked out there and see my boys sitting in the SHADE like this... I just couldn't go through with it .... They are drenched with sweat just standing in the shade! Blast this nasty hot state!

Same here, 100 degrees and still, hot and humid. Walked out to check horses and they are in the barn with the fans, still soaked in sweat. So instead of ride time it became "play with the garden hose" time.

They all love to be sprayed, will gather aroung and fight over who gets sprayed first. Torino runs in and insists on being sprayed, the runs off and rolls, the runs right back in.

Can't ride, but its a fun game anyway!

I hear ya Cascy! It's been about 4 days since I last rode mine, and I just got the go ahead to use the mare in the next fun show.

Guess I'll be up and out the door at 6:30 am in an attempt to ride before the heat blasts us again. Urgh.

It's so bad that I've taken to riding in shorts and sneakers, which is something I have NEVER EVER done before in my life. I don't like my legs sticking to my saddle. Ew.

That is insane! I have never in all my life seen a horse sweat that much. And I whine and complain like a big ol baby when it reachs 30 degrees here (87 fahrenheit) I bow down to you.

It's been humid as all get out here and a couple of the horses are sweaters, my Belgian being one of them. I suspect her being overweight isn't helping her (she's on a diet now). When the hose comes out, she comes right up and will turn for me so I can get both sides! She's a hoot!

Just walking to the barn to see my horses made me sweat. I can imagine how they feel. Mine don't like the hose though. I wish they did, I'd feel so much better being able to cool them off a bit.

Mine looked the same today. I was out there getting the water hose after them too.

Our big huge Perch will take the hose right out of the tank himself and douse whomever he pleases including himself - he does the same thing if your spraying down one side turns and comes back for more. I love it though when he's spraying his buddies, the kids, the air, the birds you name it. What a big huge goofball!

Ours were dripping sweat yesterday as well, it was so hot yesterday even the colts were just standing around. It started to storm (just started, it never actually got going ) and you should have seen them all come alive when the wind started blowing. Heads came up and they all headed for the middle of the pasture to take advantage of the breeze.

It's gotten really hot here in the past few days. Our horses stand at the gates in the morning, begging to be put in the barn! Thank God for the sea breeze otherwise it would be unbearable. If it's not the heat, it's the flies...or the allergies, muck itch, parasites, etc. Tough to be a horse (or horse owner) in Florida!

We put misters in the stalls plus their fan and they love it. Its not bad for me either when out there working great way to cool off and not get soaked. It has really helped with the flies too.Still riding but real early in the morning and right before dark.

I know it has been hot and humid here, and since my horse is at my daughter's(an hour away),I haven't gotten to ride but once several weeks ago. I come home and try to walk my Aussie and we are both miserable when we stop. Today is suppose to be less humid and it has sprinkled some this morning driving into town.

Holy cow, I guess it's warm there! We've not had any days that bad here (yet, August is usually our worst month). I hope you catch a break from the heat soon.

Yea, hot here too! I looked out my window Sunday and saw a stupid guy riding his horse/running on the paved road, my horses are staying in the pond and as soon as they would dry off, they would be sweating again..is it too much to ask or expect people to at least care about their horses...and yes this is the same stupid guy that was out riding his horses back when the buffalo gnats were so bad and were eating his horse up alive..and all his horse wanted to do was lay down or get away from the gnats, but no he had to be out running him up and down the road..urggggggggg

It was over 100 here yesterday too, and humid! Uggh! I hate it when it is that humid. Our girls were simply eating and they were dripping with sweat, I felt so bad for them.

I've still been riding....luckily at night or early morning...
If I ride during the day I walk only and I stay in the woods for the shade.
Gus doesn't seem to mind it too much.
Plus I ride bareback so he doesn't have the weight of a saddle too.

I cancelled lessons yesterday because I just didn't have the heart to put a saddle on him in this heat. (My instructor was very thankful that I did, she wasn't looking forward to an hour in the round pen either!) We just walked them up to the top pasture for some extra grazing and I was pouring sweat in like two minutes. It was 101 when I got in the car to leave work!

When I'm standing in the round pen in 90+ degree heat and high humidity with sweat pouring off me, I keep reminding myself how wonderful it will feel when I get under a cool shower after.
