how do you prefer to ride

When you go trail riding, how do you ride? For example my daughter rides bareback and prefers to canter than a walk(on permitted areas) whereas I prefer to ride with a saddle and go at a walk.
How do you prefer to trail ride?

Considering I ride a horse we call the Spook-Monster, I ride in a saddle, at a walk, unless I am no longer in control! He has perfected the spin and run move.

depends on the horse I'm riding, who I'm riding with, how long I'm riding for, and what kind of trails they are, also time of year and weather

But i enjoy riding the trails fast and slow bareback or with saddle lol

It really depends on the horse. Like Carri's horse the "Spook-Monster." If it's a spooky horse, with a saddle at a walk. If it's a calm not very spooky horse I will either ride with or without a saddle. If it's a familiar trail I will ride fast but if it's a new trail I like to ride slow and look and the scenary.

For sure I ride with a saddle.

I like to walk, trot, and canter on the trail.

I love bareback, but nothing that I ride is beyond green at this point.. so I prefer a saddle so that I will stay on the horse - just in case..

If were just messing around at the house, than bareback is fun. And slow ro fast.

But, if we actually haul somewhere to trail ride(state park or something) I always use a saddle and we usually walk, unless we fell like going faster in an opening or something. But this is usually a 10 mile trip so walking is normal

I ride with a saddle, will do the bareback thing every once in a while. I ride fast and slow, slow through rough terrain and run on a dirt road.

Usually I'm in a saddle if I'm out on the trails (but that will change when I'm on my own farm in 2 months!!!!! ) I know when I have the horses at home with me I'm usually lazy and don't like to saddle so I ride 70% bareback unless I'm riding with hubby or friends. Right now while boarding we use our saddles and usually we amble... mind you Chevys perfered pace is sleep so amble is about all I can muster at all!

It really depends on who I'm riding and what we're doing:

Sugar (psyco barrel appx) loves bare back. . . she gets really hot undersaddle (dances, prances, head toss when she thinks 'b. . . arrel') when I started playing with her bare back, she'd cool down tree times as fast. . . shes smooth and very comfortable any any speed . . .

Bear (appy) likes bare back, and the BF loves to take him out like that

Blue. . . oh my lord. . . "wheres the saddle??? There is no saddle??? HAHAHA!!" *Thump* as my butt hits the ground. . . she needs a few thousand more miles on her and then we'll try again. . .

but who knows. . . that was right after I bought her and she was crazy. . . I've only tried one other time since then. . . at a walk in the round pen and she was fine. . .

Endurance trail saddle, with extra padding! And I like a nice slow amble with an occasional trot thrown in...we haven't cantered yet, but I've only had him three weeks, and only gotten in one trail ride!

Well, I only ride my leae horse around the trail at their farm, but usually in my treeless saddle (he can be kinda dicey when he's "out" on the trail- not spooky really, but likes to try and wheel back to home). And we have a little routine, depen.ing on the area of the trail- walk, jog, slow canter, couple simple changes where the trail turns, a full-out run in the backstretch (we both love it ) and then practicing some half-halts to slow it down on the way back...

On a regular trail I do like to jog but if I'm on one it's usualy a guided trail ride so none of that... unless you park yourself at the back and have to "catch up..."

Definitely saddle, I've never enjoyed bareback too much. My legs are too stinkin' short
I also prefer to walk.

I can't help myself.... I'll ride anything.....can't help being a little daredevil.... plus I like challenges.

Bareback all the way. Well unless they have a high top line then it's jus not comfy.

I love going on a trail bareback with Rocket. I'll let him run a bit, but not too much, he's out of shape.

What is really fun is once a year or so going on the flat soft trail to the lake that is about 3/4 of a mile long ad letting him gallop part of the way...he loves it, and it is soo much fun.

I voted with saddle-fast b/c I like the thrill of running. I like to break things up a bit and do some trotting and cantering as well as walking.
