Memorial Day camping trip-good, bad & ugly!

Applejack and I camped over Memorial Day and it started out great! We had a beautiful campsite, nice trails--and the horses were well-behaved. Applejack bought a new horse this spring and it was his first camping trip--and my mares first long trail ride of the year.

Sunday turned into a weather-disaster--tornado warnings and hail--so we headed home earlier than we wanted--unfortunately the hail (baseball sized!) followed us and did terrible things to Applejack's truck and trailer

Here's a picture (hope it posts) after our Saturday afternoon ride--this is our campsite--pretty scenic. A nice lady (can't remember her name but she rode a sorrel mare!) took this for us. Applejack's on the left, I'm on the right (excuse the helmet hair). Hopefully the horses will be as good on our next camping trip--and the weather will be much better!

Those smiles say it all... looks like you guys had lots of fun, except for hail and damage. Glad however you guys returned home safely.

Sibley State Park near New London/Spicer. We had never camped there before--but we'll go back. The horse camping part is small (9 sites) and there's only about 10 or so miles of trails, but it was perfect for the first trip of the season (the horses and owners a little out of shape!)

What I really, really liked about these trails are they are so well-marked. Even I couldn't get lost (and that's saying a lot!)
