instead of a pack, why not just have her take a back-pack with her?

Again, thanks for all the feedback.

So far, when Misty spooks, it is only a brace, a bit if a splaying of legs. I know the big spook will come, and hopefully her riding skills, helmet and event vest will get her through unscathed.

My wife rides mostly bareback. On our first ride together she was getting ready to ride my paint mare who I had ridden bareback around the house, but not on a trail ride. I showed her the saddle I use and she kinda looked at me and said she hadn't ridden in a saddle in a couple years. So off we went and of course during the ride we hit a muddy little incline and the horse started to slip and slide and I thought for sure things were going to end in disaster. The horse kept her feet and my wife stayed on seemingly without effort and I was in awe. Now she mostly rides her 24 y/o arabian mare bareback (and she says it will never see a saddle again), while using a saddle on our younger horses. We did a nine mile ride yesterday with no problems. I can't say I've ever seen her come off a horse yet (but she has plenty of stories about it as a kid).
