Keewenaw Upper Peninsula of Michigan

We lived up in the Copper Country for 3 years and I loved it up there. Does anybondy know of places to camp and ride in that area? North and/or West of the Marquette area is what I'd be looking for.

sarav- I don't know of any North and West of MArquette in the Copper Country area but I've riden before on Bruno's Run which is around the Munising area. It's origionally a Mt. Bike trail and can get a little rough in parts but it's rarely ever used and is a great, beautiful ride if you have a dependable horse. If you find anything PM me, I'm in the MArquette area so I'd love to try something out. I don't get out around here much.

Thanks! I'll look into that area. I really miss the U.P. sometimes, it would be fun to be able to go up there in the Fall with our horses. The fall colours in Northern Minnesota just don't compare; to many pines and poplar trees.

I realize this is an old thread but I just joined and was perusing the local Michigan related stuff. I've mountain biked Bruno's Run twice and it is indeed a very nice trail. I'm guessing it does get little use so the occasional horse probably wouldn't cause any problems. A little farther west though we just recently rode parts of the Bay de Noc to Grand Island trail. It's based on an old Indian portage most of the way across the UP. Starts outside Rapid River and goes up to M-94. There's three trailheads where you can camp- southern, middle and northern, and the Haymeadow Creek campground is only half a mile off the trail (although it's in the Hiawatha National Forest so you might technically be allowed to camp off trail if you were interested).

Anyway, we stayed at the middle trailhead and just rode north and south from there. Probably the best stretch was the 3-4 miles between the Big Pines overlook and Haymeadow Creek / campground. Some nice valleys to ride through and the creek is a nice rest stop. If you did stop at the campground there's a short mile loop hike up to some small falls on Haymeadow Creek. We didn't ride the southern portion because it looked pretty flat and boring and heavily logged and some locals confirmed this to be the case. We also didn't ride the very northern end but the same locals said this was a nice ride.
