New Years Day Trail Ride *PICS*

Well, I brought in the New Year what I love to do and that is trail ride !! I rode with my SIL and a mutual friend on an area of our county that is all nature and untouched. It is 100's of acres of untouched Fla wilderness. The only paths are for the trucks to drive it and maintain it. The guy who maintains it is a mutual friend and he gives us permission and the gate keys. We saw gators, deer, turkey, tons of birds (every specie) plus racoon. Also saw bear and panther tracks (big ones !!) It was a gorgeous day !! Sunny, 70s and breezy. We rode about 4.5 hrs ....... Enjoy !!

At the start of the ride, my gelding at the trailer. Mane is straight up, very breezy day !!

Boardwalk we gotta cross. It crosses over a VERY swampy marsh with yes, ALLIGATORS in it. We are about 2 foot above the water, fencing along side the railing so nothing can grab at us !! The boardwalk is VERY sturdy. We have crossed it many times. This wasn't our first time out here !! Its about 1/4 mile long. The top pic you can see our friend, he walked his horse acrossed it. Not me, I rode it. It doesn't bother my gelding.

One of the many trails. This stretch is about 4-5 miles long, great footing. Makes for a nice hand gallop/hack. We just walked and enjoyed the day !!

After a nice long ride, a little reward........Some playtime in the water-mud !! He got a good bath when we got home !!

What great pictures! The first time you crossed the boardwalk, did you have to get off and walk him across? I am terrified of alligators! That is a beautiful trail!

For safety purposes, yes, his first time across it I hand walked him, but he still didn't do anything. All the horses that ride out there are mounted patrol horses, so nothing really bothers them, we put them thru alot of descentizing. My friend who had his horse out there for the first time, she did great. She just walked across too. He just retired his mounted patrol horse and has this one on trial. So far so good...............I cut out my SIL and friend b/c I don't have their permission to post thier pics.

Looks like FUN!!
And what a pretty place to ride, EXCEPT for the alligators, no thank you!!
It was bitterly cold here on NY's Day, or I would have been doing the same thing.
Glad you got to start your new year off in the best possible way, RIDING!! RB

PS., Your Paint is a very handsome guy.

Yes and no. Anything you do with your horse is an "Accident waiting to happen" We are very careful with our ( MOUNTED PATROL TRAINED CERTIFIED) horses and believe me, the walk way is the LEAST of what training and descentizing we do with our horses.

Our horses have been in situations you wouldn't even dream of = we train and descentisize constantly and the bond we have with our horses are incredible.

The weather has been fabulous the past few days so I'm glad you got to ride! I helped my friend wash her groady paint mare today and, believe me, it took two of us! Tomorrow I hope to take a ride down the road and meet the new neighbors who just moved in. Perfect riding weather!
