Which type of clippers would you buy?

Hubby is buying me clippers for Christmas. I need to order them so I get what I want. I am having trouble deciding whether I want cordless or with a cord. Please give me some opinions, pros, cons, brand names.....Help!

I'm not fond or cordless they aren't as strong and run out fast. It also depends on if you paln to us them as a full body clipper or just touch ups.

I have oster one speed changeable blade clippers and have body clipped with them BUT they get hot and run slow at times. they are corded. I also have a pair of whal cordless and they die before I get all three bridle paths clipped.

I like Oster, and Wahls. I like my corded ones, because they seem much more powerful, if you have a good place to plug them in. My horses never seem to mind if you have a cord. I do use my cordless occasionally for a quick trim, or if I have one that hates it, I use them in the roundpen until they get the point.

I used Oster clippers.
They worked really well, actually.
But they were corded... I didn't want to put my mare through the embarassment of being half clipped because the clippers died

Actually I want to use them to clip my dog also. The horses would just be bridle path, trims - not full body clip. My dog is a Border Collie - I like to clip him in the summer.

We have osters that we use when we full body clip the dairy cow. They are corded and work very well.

We have a cordless pair that is used for clipping the heads of our pinzgauers. They are much quiter than the others and the cows will stand still and let us clip them with those

I have had the A5 cordless set since they came out. they have plenty of oomph and come with 2 battery packs and a charger. One is charging while you are using the other ones.
I give them a 2 thumbs up.
Mine are about 9 years old now and are still going strong. I did replace the head because a bad bounce busted it.
I do full body clips as well as just bridle paths etc.
A GOOD cordless is amazing and you can clip them anywhere-that is the part I like.

Ok then oster one or two speed changeable blade will work great for you. Just remember alway bath the dog thoroughly before clipping or it will dull the clippers VERY fast!!! I use mine to shave my dog as well and they do a great job!!!

Love Oesters !!

I have the Oester A5 dual speed.

You will replace blades b/4 the clippers as long as you care for them properly.

They are corded

The uncorded clippers just don't have the power.

I have a5's but don't really like them. They heat up way to fast. Horse Journal had the same complaint about them.

I like the big clippers-my complaint is just that they are too bulky and heavy for me.

You are right - opinions sure do vary. I didn't take your post the wrong way, just your opinion.

My one horse, I can do anything with, he stands there. Zeke on the other hand ????? If it is a good day, he stands, a bad day, anything could happen. That is why I am considering the cordless. But I do not want the batteries to die before I am done. It would require charging the batteries beforehand. In a senior moment I would forget and then be blessing myself for being such a dummy. I will let all of you know what I decide. Thanks for all of the input.

Yes you have to remember to charge them the night before-true and yes I have forgotten but it really doesn't take that long.
As you are shaving away-the clippers work for about a half hour but they recharge in about 15 minutes so tha helps.
Have fun shopping.

I'm with Tmom. I also have the cordless Osters, they are very powerful-just as powerful as there corded twins. The batteries take no time at all to charge. I have never had a problem with them, or a job they wouldn't do. They are quiet, and the scary cord snake isn't there intimidating your horse.

Some people don't like cordless because they buy the cheaper ones-and they have no power! The ones in the link that Tmom posted can't even be compared to other cordless clippers-they are far superior!

I use the Oster corded with quick change blades and have for years. Work great on pets too: used to shave my mothers cat! They just keep on working as long as they're taken care of. I body clip with the big Clipmasters because they are so much quicker.

You are right everyone has different opinions on clippers!
Here is mine.

Arco by Whal, They come with a blade and 2 battery packs. You have to run them totally dead before you recharge to keep them strong. I have had mine since 2003 and use them all the time (I groom dogs) I love them. They are my all time favorite!

Pros-they are light and quiet, you can do a whole dog on one battery. Horses don't seem to mind them because they are quiet. Great for faces and bridle paths. Easy to rebuild if you have to.
Cons-Blades can't be resharpened. You have to buy new ones. They don't do much else on a horse.

Oster A-5s I love. But they blow hair at you (which I don't love!) they can get hot so you need to change your blade often and use cool lube. Never tried the cordless ones! I have several pair both single and two speed. They can shave anything.

Andis AGC corded and cordless. I have both of these. And really like my corded ones. I like the cordless but the batteries don't last. They don't have a long life, although now you can buy a cord for them for 29.00. These would be my second choice.

And last but not least I bought some clippers from China off ebay for body clipping my minis. These are called GTS Professionals. They are like the big osterclippers. I paid about 140 with shipping. They are great! They will also send extra blades at cost.
I hope it helps.
