What to price this saddle at?

I need help with pricing this saddle. I bought this years ago, don't even remember what I paid, but I know it was a good chunck of change. Anyways, I need to sell it. I never use it-to wide for my TB and not wide enough for my haffie!!! It's a 7" gullet 17" seat, it is acorn tooled, has some silver on it that needs to be polished. The brand is D&D saddle from Texas. Any clue on price? It's in good condition, the leather is in great shape it does have some scratches on the fenders but that's it. [IMG][/IMG]

It's a horrible pic I know, but it's all I got.

Shoot, I don't know that brand. And with other brands they can make different model lines, lower quality and higher quality, so the particular model is important too. And to further bother you with details, the year it was made is important because that makes a difference as to quality too.

That being said, its a nice looking saddle but one would need to get an idea of the fleece underneath. Is it new or used, on my computer it looks like it might be used? Then the fleece condition is especially important as well as how tight the Ds are held and all of the other bolts. These are things that if explained help an online buyer feel more comfortable. I'll never buy an unknown saddle from an unknown seller again. But if the seller was as explicit in her description so as to answer those questions above, I'd feel better.

Check out eBay for price ranges and what has sold. That's a good market evaluation. And if the brand has a website you can check there too. Maybe they could help you find out more about the saddle.

The fleece is in very good condition, everything is tight and well maintained. There is very little sign of wear and tear other than the scratches it has on one of the fendars. I would put this at a late 80's early 90's model but I'm not sure. It's not a real heavy saddle, it's lighter. I bought it from an estate basically the owners past on and the daughter was selling this saddle, that was a good 6 yrs ago maybe. The daughter doesn't recall the saddle being used. She didn't even know they had it.

If by "light" you mean 25# rather than 40#, then its typical for a pleasure saddle. But if by "light" you mean lightweight for a pleasure or barrel saddle then I'd make a guess that it is a "cheap" saddle regardless of the price paid. Its something I'm saying from my personal experience and that rule of thumb probably doesn't cover absolutely every saddle, it's what it means to me. So if I were writing the ad I'd simply state facts, like "it weighs 25#" rather than say its light. See what I mean?

Right now the name brands, like Simco are selling for $300 and more, the others are selling under that. Its not the best market right now, but you can post it on Craiglist to see what kind of action you get without worry about having to sell it at a low price.

It's about 20-25lbs, yeah it's not the typical 40lb saddle, but it's not light like my synthetic. I'm not far from pleasant hills, I really don't want to stop in there and get Paul(owner) to price it as he will price it for consignment price and it's going to be low I know that! I've worked there before, I know how that works. I was thinking a little higher then $300 but I see that others aren't going for much more than that!!! I may hold on to it for that price. I do love the saddle.

No, I didn't mean put it on consignment, I meant check out their prices But you are very right about prices going high at that store ALTHOUGH in the Roger's store I saw some that were reasonable, but of course those don't last long at all! Less than a week when I went back again.

So... if you really like it, you may as well keep it. I don't think you're going to get what you want for it. And then with the money you get, you may not be able to get a replacement that you'll like as well.

So congratulations on your "new" used saddle!

Yeah I guess I can put my price on it and if it sells great, if not, oh well, I have a new used saddle!!!LOL

The pleasant hills down in Lakeville doesn't usually get much in for consignment but what we do get in Paul prices low to sell fast. When you bring a saddle in for consignment HE puts the price on it you don't. You either sell it for what he says or take it home. But I get what your saying. I guess if I did bring it to him for a price he would say about $300. I guess I could sell it for that. Maybe I'll list it at $350 b/o!!!

Ya know, the price I'd pay for a saddle is what I'm comfortable with. And the price you'd sell it at is the price you're comfortable with. If we are comfortable at the same price then we've got a sale. So your idea sounds very good to me. Put it up for sale at the price you're willing to let go of it for and then see what happens. Makes sense to me.

Good luck on that! Not sure if I mean, I hope you sell it, or I hope you keep it since you like it
