Zebra Print Western Saddle!?

Yesterday I went with a few of the 4-H'ers to a big Black Friday tack sale. While we were there one of the girls fell head over heels in love with a western saddle (she rides English!) that was -- ZEBRA PRINT! I've never seen anything even remotely like it. The horn, seat, and cantle were black leather. I wouldn't call it "synthetic", as the skirt and fenders were a kind of zebra print faux fur. She sat in it and it was exactly here size. She told me that it was very comfortable and put her hip in just the right angle. She has been agonizing over whether or not to switch over to western since the last 4-H Fair, so now she is really hyped about selling her English saddle and putting some of the money from the sale towards this saddle.

I did not see a brand anywhere on it, and I’ve never seen anything like it, so I was curious on your opinions? Have you heard of this saddle? Does anyone own it? It looked put together pretty well for being an “untypical” type of saddle, with nice black fleece on the underside, I’m just worried that it might have a cheap tree. They were only asking $300 for it at the tack shop and it is very lightly used. She is just a casual trail rider who does a little showing in 4-H so she probably wouldn't use the saddle too hard. I wish I’d had a camera to take pictures! Thanks.

You often see saddles with designs, I believe them to be pointed towards teenagers or someone who really does not know their saddles. It could be a great saddle don't get me wrong but usually they are a cheaply made saddle that looks cute so someone will buy because they like design and think any saddle on a horse is fine. Not taking into account fit for horse etc. She probably likes zebra print and thinks it will look cool. She better buy it and ALSO keep her english saddle because she may findout she does not like it or her horse does not. I have nine saddles. One horse does not wear them all. If you put certain ones on certain horse he will be sore or mad or whatever. Saddles are all different and so are horses bodies. Good luck to your friend.

We're really not concerned about horse fit. What I'm worried about is a cheap tree that will fall apart on her in a year. Thank you for the input, lots to think about! Anyone else ever see ths saddle?

I have a zebra print western saddle. Have had it for 6 or so years and it is still going strong and looks new.

They have all kind of designs on saddles now. I've seen flames, a Batman theme, wild colors and patterns, and animal prints. The shop you were at should have more information on it such as the maker, or they should have the name of what company or person they got it from. Maybe you could contact them for more information.

Because the owner of this saddle has used it on a horse that is built the same way and moves the same way as the horse that this girl would be using the saddle on.
