difference between a gaited tree and a QH or arab tree?

Any one know the difference between a gaited tree and a QH tree and an arab tree? I go the 'fit to be seen' saddle forms to fit a tree for my arab and went though them all and picked the one that fit best and when I talked to him today he said it is a walker tree! I was really surprised that my arab fit a gaited tree better than the others. So now I am wondering what the difference between them is!

As I undertand it, gaited trees are higher or cut back from the withers to allow more upward freedom of movement of the horse's neck and head - gaited horses properly carry thier heads higher than other breeds.

Arabs normally have shorter backs than other breeds. Some modern Walkers are bred to be short backed, and so are other gaited breeds, like Pasos and even Rockies. Some of the older gaited types were narrower in the back and higher in the withers than Arabs, but that certainly isn't true for Pasos.

A tree manufacturer can call his tree what he wants to. There is no standard from one to the other. Full QH from one might equal semi-QH from another. If the tree fits, great, regardless of what it is called!

Gaited trees, in addition to having a higher gullet (as gaited horses tend to be high withered), have more rock and are wider in the front of the gullet than in the back (done this way to allow for more shoulder movement). Arabian trees have narrower gullet (like semi QH bars) but flatter pitch angle (like on full QH bars).

Every horse is built differently. Certainly it's not a bad thing that a gaited horse tree fits your horse, just as it's not a bad thing that a gaited horse tree won't fit my gaited horse. Gaited trees don't fit all gaited horses; Arabian trees don't fit all Arabians.

Use the tree that best fits your horse regardless of what it's called. It's a good thing that you found a tree that fits!

That's probably because gaited trees tend to have shorter bars too.
