Slim Pikkens likes Big Horns. If Slim likes them, that always works for me.

Yup, they are good. I used to have one that had belonged to my mother when she was a kid. Lasted till a horse flipped over on it. I loved it.
My son has one now. It's great.
Congrats on finding a good saddle.

I love Big Horn. They are excellent saddles and I don't have one negative thing to say about them. One of the higher-quality saddles out there.

I'd say that saddle is worth about $200-250....that is if everything is in tact and with good undercarriage-fleece and structure.

I like Big Horn saddles, they seem to last a long time and usually put you in a good position. That looks a lot better built than alot of saddles I have seen of that style. Depending on the seat size, I was also going to say 250-300

I love Big Horn. I think it looks worth 300 or so. Its in great shape. How old is it and what model? I got a Big Horn roping saddle off Ebay. Paid 225 for it. Its a little older, but in great shape, just weighs a stinking ton. I also have a Big Horn, red bareback pad that I bought used, about 17 years ago and I still use it, not a rip or tear in it anywhere. The color is faded, but man, its quality made. I think you made a good choice Dorothy. I like it

I think you got a really nice saddle for a good price then. You can't get a quality leather saddle for much better than that.

Man - I'm jealous - you got a great deal. I'm a big horn fan and lately everything I've seen has been outrageously priced for what they we're offering - so kudos to you.

I have a Big Horn Saddle that's gotta be 50 years old and it's solid as a rock. I love it and have turned down $1,000 for it.

I been told that they've been bought out and that their more recent stuff isn't up to the quality of the old stuff but I don't know that to be fact. Anyone else hear that?

I too heard that they had been bought out recently, Sean. I can also confirm that their new stuff is not up to snuff with the old. A friend of mine bought a Cordura trail saddle from the Country Supply catalog. It just doesn't look as well made and it doesn't ride like the ones I have. But then again, it could be one of the economy type saddles.

I have three Big Horns, 2 all leather; one trail, one roper and a cordura trail saddle. All three are older, 2 manufactured in the 1990s and one in the 1980s. They are comfortable, take a lickin' and they have a tree that fits almost any horse I put it on. The only other saddle I have is a Circle Y and truth be told, I'll ride the Big Horn before it any day.

yes I felt very lucky--just thought we'd stop in to check them out. I sold my daughters one saddle the night before to a woman I had sold a horse to this spring-- she stopped by out of the blue and said she had seen I had it for sale. didn't even try to get a better deal on it just paid and left
The tack guy does the local monthly auction and I think he picks up good used saddles that come through cheap then resales for a profit.
My daughter tried it out yesterday and likes it-- she still wishes it were black though
