Are you a tack junkie?

I know I am. My son & I were reorganizing the tack shed and tack room. I decided to do a new inventory. I had a pretty good idea of what we have. We have 3 English saddles, 8 Western saddles, over 45 bits, and so on and so forth.
I've seen people who use the same bridle on all their horses. Not me. Each of our horses has it's own bridle or bridles, depending. And they all have proper bridle racks, with a label on top with the horse's name. I should never have to explain to someone to get me the one eared headstall with 3 silver conchos on the cheek and the dog bone gag with silver cheeks. Most people wouldn't have a clue what I was talking about. Instead, I can just ask them to get Vamp's bridle off her left hand hook. This way every horse has a bit that they like and a headstall that needs no adjusting.
Plus, with the amount of bits that I have, I'm almost sure to find something that works with a particular horse. If that bit already belongs to another horse, I go out and buy another one.
Granted, most of my bits are snaffles. We have had quite a few young horses, so they get well used. But we also have shanked bits of all sorts.
I also seem to be the person people come to when they want to try out a certain type of bit but don't want to buy it unless it's gonna work.
How much tack do you have? Do you stop at every tack shop you see? Do you buy tack because you may need it "someday", or simply because it's purty?

No not really.. Well I do have 5 saddles, a bridle for all my horses with a couple spares, about 10 lead ropes, 8 brushes, 8 hoof picks, 5 saddle blankets and breast collars etc. There are 3 of us. Oh yeah and 5 extra pair of reins.Every horse has its own everything plus and extra or 2 and I have about 15 halters. So no I am not a tack junkie, I just have enough "just in case".

I keep on trying to tell my hubby that we need extras in case one breaks, you know, like reins, lead ropes & halters. But he just gives me funny looks.
I even started buying custom halters with the horse's names embroidered onto the nose piece. This way everybody has their own and there's no arguing which is which.
If I am in town and my friend drives around to find my truck, the first place she looks is always in front of the tack shop. If we go to a city and hit a big tack shop and lose each other, she just finds the bit section. She knows that if I'm not there then, I will be soon enough.

...Stands up in the midst of everyone saying...

"My name is Alston and I have a problem.....I am a tack junkie!"

I def have more take than I could ever need...lol...I have 4 saddles, 5 if youi include my first that I've outgrown. 3 bridles that are currently in use, and several others that are not. And countless halters with matching leads, wraps and buckets for showing. Let me put it this way, each horse has 3 complete matching outfits for shows, so I can choose when I go! Plus I have extra mismatched stuff just for spares.

When I got my trailer I found that enough reason to buy more stuff.
A head bumper (which Cleo will probably hate) and shipping boots, I have polo wraps I have never opened, more vetwrap, trailer ties, corner feeder, first aid supplies, a whole new set of combs and brushes.....and in the next three weeks while I prepare for our upcoming trip to Brushy Creek, I know I will find the need to buy more stuff.

"Better to have and not need than need and not have" is my motto.
Lay that one on hubby....

This is so silly, I have been back into horses a wee bit over a year now.

I have one aussie saddle (does not fit current horse)

2 horse sized bridles (does not fit current horse)

1 ebay cob bridle that fits but broke a buckle first use

1 cob wintec bridle works like a dream

one wintec saddle that works on everything

on broken pony saddle, I would love to get repaired

3 bits waiting on a fourth to come in the mail

on winter rug..ya we need that in Louisiana

a western bridle with a barrel racing hackmore/bit on it that came with Wren

three halters

3 saddle pads

and I have bought and re sold another saddle set...because it didn't fit..

now this is just in one year...I bought wisely nearly everything was a good deal..but this is an amazing amount of stuff how does this happen

k

I guess tackaholic is better then shopaholic. Each horse has it's own wardrobe. Of course, they each have their trail "clothes", show "clothes" and barrel "clothes".

I mean you wouldn't send your child to sunday school in their play clothes, would you?

I'm one of those people who need a 16x16 tack shed, because the tack room just wasn't big enough. Then the shed looked too empty, so I had to fill it. My hubby works up north for the winters. He's gone 3 weeks at a time. He has learned that unless he has to, he really does NOT want to go into the tack shed.
He just can't understand why I'd need more than 1 snaffle and 1 shanked bit. And why I buy my kids matching sets. My daughter has a pink leather headstall & breastcollar, a pink Pro Choice pad, a pink waffle cinch, pink curb strap, reins, polos, pink & black cordura saddle, etc. Then she decided she liked purple better. So now she has a purple with metallic threads Mayatex blanket, a purple nylon headstall/reins/breastcollar set, slinky hood & purple helmet. Plus we got her purple stirrup hobbles & stirrups with purple to go on the saddle she borrowed off her older brother. My youngest is into blue. He has a blue nylon set, a blue saddle blanket & blue helmet. His halter & lead are blue as well.

Hey!!!
Well, you can't take money with you when you go. I figure if I have it, I can spend it. And what better way to do so than on my kids, for my horses.

Right now I only have 1 saddle, 3 bridles and 4 halters, because during the 2007 fires I left some stuff in my tack shed and it all got stolen.

I used to have 6 saddles, a Circle Y Martha Josey barrel saddle I won that was my favorite, and bazillions of bridles and bits.

That's what forums are for, you don't even need to leave your house to get to a meeting. Although I'm pretty sure we are all just a bunch of enablers.
Too bad we all didn't live closer to each other and could have tack room tours. Mine'd go something like "And this is the pair of sparkly polo wraps that we bought for my daughter's Shetland. We no longer have him and they don't fit anything else on my farm, but you never know when we might need them....."
