Comments on this Saddle

I've been using an english saddle to ride my mare on the trails and every now and then wish I had something a little more "comfy" ... thought I might try a western saddle (I have an old one but it's way too small for my chunky monkey ).

I've been watching this one on ebay and wondered if anyone would be willing to make comments. I don't want to spend a lot of money .. with buying two horses, building a barn and pasture, I'm strapped for cash.

So what do you think about http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tab%3DWatching

nice looking set there, but be careful about the quality of the saddle, I previously purchased a saddle on ebay and it was nice looking and comfy but after some use (less than 6 months of use) the leather holding the D-rings on began to crack and tear. Not saying don't purchase it but thoroughly check it out before using it.

CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP. Save your money and get a quality peice of tack. That thing will not last and I am afraid you will be very disappointed. Look for a nice used quality name brand saddle. Good points are they will last forever, and it will already be broken in. I got a really sweet deal on a Crates show saddle a couple of months ago. LOVE it, fit my horse really well and already broke it, never even had to move the stirrips. Just keep looking!

I understand ... BUT was your sweet deal $125 ? ... I know you get what you pay for but right now I don't have hundreds of dollars for "quality". I'm trying to save for a used horse trailer too. I pay CASH for everything.

I don't ride much ... in fact my old saddle that doesn't fit my new horse is over 20 years old and I KNOW it was a cheap no name saddle. Still in good condition though (for me) ... I'm not picky about what I ride in.

I understand that you dont have alot to spend but I would be leary buying a cheap saddle on ebay. Buy a cheap one at tack sale or from a dealer that you can see how cheap it is or isnt. That one doesnt not look very good to me.

*shrug*

I bought a cheap, no name, synthetic, treeless saddle on ebay for trail riding, and I love it. I guess it's luck of the draw... tho I would be more worried about buying a saddle with a tree, worried about it fitting right and all....

good luck. I personally think it looks fine, but if I were buying a leather saddle with a tree, I'd want to try it on my horse first.

I don't know..Looks like it would give you something to ride in now, while you save for something better...or maybe you will luck out...at that price it is good to have a spare.

Worst case is dry rotted and patently unsafe and you are out 150.$

Wow, for a saddle that he used for 3 years it does not look used at all. either he had it covered or he is showing another picture . I would not risk the whole deal.
Check here on HT first, I saw alot of saddles forsale, or CL.

I would be learly...but if you need a light use saddle...and you need one cheap, then the saddle might wokr for ya....on the other hand, someone could get hurt if it beaks while in use.....I have a saddle I got off E-bay and I love it, but my friend bought a 2nd and it nearly killed my riding companion when it started it rain it literally fell apart going down a hill.

No my sweet deal was not 125, but nice saddle for a nice price and if I quit showing I can sell it again for what I paid or more if I was lucky.

The "quality" of a saddle makes you AND your horse a bunch happier. JMHO. That one just screams cheep and unsafe!

I passed on it ... I'm going to stick with what I have for now. I only ride "maybe" once a week so I can think of other things I can spend my money on.
