I agree. When I say old BC, I mean 20 (or more) years ago. An original BC saddle, not the newer cheaper ones that have a name but no quality. Whether it says Billy Cook or Longhorn the quality is just not the same. The tack dealers tell me they come from the same place, they just have a different tag. One says Longhorn and one doesn't. The Longhorns are the (slightly) cheaper version. |

I have no issue with the LONGHORN Billy Cooks at all. They are not "inferior' at all. Longhorn saddlery has been around a very long time. BC sold out/sold his name-to be used quite legally and moved to OK. Where he was busted in 2006,may have been 2007 for having over 60 illegal aliens at his factory. Quality is where you find it.

Ok, I know this thread is getting old but I just found out some information that is pertinant and I thought I would share. Apparently this is called In Seat Rigging and was patented in the late 1920s to early 1930s. From what I've read it is popular in ranch rodeos and in the southwestern U.S. I was told that this type of rigging gives a more secure and even cinch because it uses the whole seat to hold the saddle in place. It also is supposed to give more feel than flat plate rigging as it creates less bulk between the leg and the horse. The only drawbacks I've heard of with this rigging is if the slot for the stirrup is not cut properly then there tends to be restricted leg movement and even some pinching.
Hope this info helps. David ETA: I know it's hard to see but if you look close at the picture the rigging rings for this saddle are actually made into the leather of the seat Jockey. ( It's just barely covered by the stirrup but if you look close you can tell where it's at)

Thanks David-that is what I was thinking-it would be really "snugged down" on the horse.
Learn something new everyday!
