Clippers

So I am in the market for a nice set of clippers. Needed some anyhow...but since I wacked off Sugar's mane...I really need some now.

All the tack books have sooo many to choose from.

Could you suggest a good...cordless...middle of the price range set of clippers.

Ones that will do the mane as well as convert to do the entire body and face.

I have never seen a pair of cordless body clippers, only ones to do trimming. I used to have a pair of oester regargeable clippers, which I liked as they were super quiet, but i let someone clip their horse's legs and they burnt out the motor. Maybe the newer ones have a more powerful motor.

When I said the body...I meant around the face and mane and stuff.

I like my cordless oster. http://www.animalworldnetwork.com/buospowcorcl.html

I think my hubby paid like $400 for them, but totally worth it in the long run. I clip the horses and dogs. You could do a full body clip with them, or use them just to trim up manes, faces and fetlocks. They are also quiet.

Oster and Wahl make a good set of cordless clippers. You pay a bit more but last way longer and you don't have to buy new blades everytime, just send them in to get sharpened! Ebay is a great place to get a decent deal on clippers!

I don't own these but have heard lots of good things about them

I have a pair of Oester A5 dual speed. They are not cordless, they are great clippers. Have had them 5 yrs and I use them to body clip my mini and alos my 2 dogs. <besides muzzles, forelocks, etc....> I have a few sets of blades and depending on what I am cutting, depends on the blade size.

I don't think a cordless pair of clippers if going to be strong enough to bodyclip.

I agree with the others on here, Oster is a really good brand for clippers.

I have the clippers shown below. They work well for bridle paths, whiskers, fetlocks, ears. They are on the quiet side as far as clippers go. I wouldn't use them for any body or leg clipping tho. Mine have hit the ground a couple of times (went flying out of my hand when I was trying to teach my mare to clip!) and they keep working.

If you decide to go with a corded set of a5's get a set that has higher spm. I had a set of golden a5 and they would not clip fetlocks or thick bridle paths. They worked great on the dogs and the horses that didn't have really thick hair. I sold them and bought a set of turbo a5 dual speed and those things cut though anything!!! I paid about 170 with shipping and customs off ebay.

MPO is stay away from the Oster A-5.
I have the newer version and they still heat up very quickly.
They are OK to clip muzzles, bridlepaths.

Absolutely do not body clip horses with them, it takes days.

When I can afford to get new ones, I am going back to Wahl's.

My cheap Wahl clippers worked better than the Oster Golden A5 at 130some dollars.

I have Wahl clippers and love them. They were only about $100. I can use them for fetlocks, muzzles, bridle paths and such. The are rechargable and can be used with the cord as well as without. Mine are the pink Breast Cancer ones. I got them for Christmas a year and a half ago and use them all the time. Never had any problems with them.
