Crosby Prix des Nations

Well my friend and I went to the tack shop the other day. We ended up staying for nearly four hours and were the only people there!!! After trying on all the show clothes, we moseyed on over to the saddle rack and started climbing on the saddles. Some of you may remember that I had a heck of a time finding a saddle that fit me (still haven't found one) and I have stopped riding in a saddle altogether because of that.

Welllll... then I sat in this saddle. It was a Crosby, I believe a Prix des Nations. Very beautiful saddle, light color leather, soft and supple. It fit me PERFECTLY. Did not throw me forward or close my hip angle like most of the other saddles I've ridden in. Then I looked at the price tag. *sigh* I could buy two nice horses for what that saddle cost.

So, who owns a Crosby Prix des Nations and who has ridden in one? Did you like it? Are the older ones similar to the new ones?

Funny you should ask!
I have 2 Crosby saddles. I have the Prix St george softride Dressage saddle for myself. it has a wonderful fit and deep seat that I really like because I rode bareback for 25+years nothing I sat in felt "comfy" to me. It had a pretty price tag but it's worth it's weight in gold to me!
I just started looking for a youth saddle for my daughter who is 7.
A friend has kept her Crosby Childs Prix Des Nation for the past 15yrs in mint condition and has decided to sell it! I have looked at the new crosby close contact for my daughter and compared it to this used one and can't find any real difference. other than the price tag
Do you have any saddle consignment stores you might be able to get one discounted?
Either way I love the saddle but at the end of the day it all boils down to a personal preference.

My cousin loves hers (so much that she bought another one when she grew out of her 16'') I'm not sure what size you'd need, but shes not asking much for hers and shes pretty tedious when it comes to her stuff.

otherwise, Crosbys are my favorite <3 well, next to pessoas and Stuarts (spelled wrong?) I own neither as I prefer western, but when I feel like learning and being serious, I'll get a one of those

Have you tried e-bay or craigslist? If your tack store has a bulletin board try putting up a wanted ad, or talk to the proprietor, they may know of someone who has a saddle to sell. Look around your area for a tack consignment shop, we have one in a town near here and they carry all sort of things. I hope you find one, a well-fitting saddle makes a big difference, like well-fitting boots which I still haven't found.

Crosby's have a great reputation, and seem to last a very long time so there should be some used ones out there! TackTrader and Horsetopia's Other classified allow you to post want ads (and may have something listed already!). Be careful with the trees on the really old ones though (15+ years), if stored/treated improperly the trees can get weak and crack, so if you buy sight unseen make it pending the tree being sound.

I have a Crosby Prix Des Nations, and love it to death! I have a used one (not sure if it's old or new-ish) and it is my favorite saddle. I also have an old Crosby Mark V and it is amazing also. I highly recommend Crosby saddles, at least the used ones, they are generally worth their price tag.

I rode in a Prix De Nations for years and loved it before switching my interest to dressage. I now have a Prix St Georges dressage saddle that I love. I recently bought a very nice used Prix De Nations and rode in it once but I'm not as comfortable in it as I used to be, probably because my dressage saddle is like sitting on a couch. It's a 17" and looks great, almost like new. PM me if you're interested in more info and pics.

Love it, love it, love it! I have a Crosby Pris Des Nations, have had it for years. I adore it, and they are super well made and comfortable.

Definately try Ebay though, I know I've seen a few on there for extremely reasonable!

awesome awesome awesome.
crosbys are by far my favorite brand of saddle. comfy, good positioning, great fit, many sizes/lengths/widths... just wonderful all around.

I have ridden in the centennial's(previous trainers, and most of her students), and the ian millar(oh my god SO COMFY!!! like extra padded) that i had for my last horse.

the leather, because it is SO soft and easily broken in, if it isnt cared for perfectly, it does wear very much

The tree on a Crosby is protected with a water proof finish meaning it is not subject to the vegaries of weather. Cheap saddles are not, therefore the tree can dry out and crack.

I used to have a Crosby Prix Des Nation DS (Deep Seat) LOVED it. I actually cried when it was stolen. You can find very good deals on them if you look hard enough. I found one in great condition a few months ago for $500. If I still rode English, I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

I have one that is probably close to 20 years old, if not older. Still in excellent condition and when I did still ride, I loved it.
