Saddle quality?

Has anyone ever had experience with this type of saddle? I typed in "Crates" in eBay and it came up.. it looks nice, but looks can be misleading!

I was looking at one of these saddles as well so started doing my research and looking at reviews and this was one I found on a barrel saddle similiar to the one I was looking at. Read the quality part -- I don't know if it is actually true but was enough to steer me away from buying one of these saddles.

I think this a company that makes their own saddles and then puts different names on them a true Crates saddle is not made by these guys which is why theirs is a GW crate. This is just my opinion though I could be wrong.

ETA- They are built on Steele co. trees which is the same company that provides the trees for circle y.

I know these saddles are not true Crates, I was just saying that is how I found them, lol.

It is weird, on that site there are a few reviews for the same saddle.. some give it 1 and say it is horrible quaulity, some give it a 5 and love it! What to believe..

Anyone else had experience with these saddles?

Steele trees are found in about 70% of production saddles because Steele is one of ( if not the ) largest saddle tree makers in the world. Although that's a very good tree it doesn't necessarily make the saddle any good. I think you could get a saddle with a known name for the amount that one is up to now...for that price I would continue looking.

I agree with David on this one. At that price, you could find a higher quality saddle that maybe is a little used but still in great condition.

Run away.... run away.... run away very fast!!! Stick to the brand names like Circle Y, Martha Josey, etc. Go used to stay in your price range. For that money, you could find a very nice one. Here are some that were on tracktrader. http://www.tacktrader.com/show_item.php?tack_id=237327 or http://www.tacktrader.com/show_item.php?tack_id=227043 or http://www.tacktrader.com/show_item.php?tack_id=238708

For me to build a saddle for that price and we'll skip the time used for the stamping, I'd make well below min. wage. The seller is attempting to fool people into thinking it is made by Crates and the unknowing will fall for it.
