How to clean a mohair cinch?

I have a mohair/angora Weaver cinch that I have been using for almost a year now. It is covered in sweat and hair and crud, and I know I need to clean it, but what is the best way to go about that without hurting the cinch (tearing it, stretching it out, etc.)?

Thanks!

we take ours to the carwash and pressure wash them with a bit of horse shampoo for the really bad ones. Just make sure to rinse and then rinse and then rinse somemore!!

Never thought of that! I bet you get some strange looks. Might be wortha try, though.

LOL you should see some of the looks when you pull in and out come the saddle pads and get hung up the floor mat things and then the cinches and then the shipping boots and sometimes the SMB's. If the blankets are really bad they go there to before the washing machine. It is a very handy place!

Hey, that's mild compaired to what a friend of mine used to do. She lived across a small field from the car wash and often took her grey Arab there for bathing. Warm water, pressure wash, walk home dries him off.....what could be better?

I use Woolite in a large tub of cool water, toss the cinch in and allow to soak for 5 or 10 min. Then I grab one cinch ring and swish it around hard until my arm tires then let it soak a while then use the other ring and swish again. I then go over the cinch by hand picking any seeds, crud which may have stuck. Rinse well in cool water and hang to dry out of the sun. Car wash water in my area is hot so not good for mohair cinches.

Would heat cause it to stretch/shrink?

I wash everything at the carwash. Saddle pads, halters, cinches...

I think that heat might cause mohair to shrink a little.
