leather/cordura saddles...hard to sell?

I have a Big Horn leather/cordura saddle (It is a 17" extra padded with FQHB on a ralide flexible tree). Very nice saddle. I've ridden in it twice for maybe 20-25 minutes each time, and it has been stored in my room and cleaned and conditioned regularly. It is a nice saddle, but the extra padding makes it fit more like a 16" and I need a little more "room" in the seat for my big butt! So basically, the way I put it, it is better than brand new.

Are these type of saddles hard to sell? (Especially "used?") I paid around $600 for it. It has the back cinch (never used) and the girth that came with it, also never used. I do not know where I put the original ralide stirrups, but I have a pair of nice quality leather covered endurance stirrups on there. (Paid $65 for those) So I have a saddle that I have about $675+ into that I've only ridden in twice, yet I can't even get people to inquire about it listed at $450. What do you think the problem is? I really need to sell it so I can get a different one with a bigger seat (or one without so much padding) but It's a nice enough saddle that I'd almost rather keep and use occasionally thatn sell for a huge loss.

As I said, I'd like to get a minimum of $450 plus shipping. I did tell one guy I'd take $475 including shipping, but the jerk backed out on me after emailing me two different times saying he'd changed his mind. Am I asking too much? Are these saddles harder to sell "second-hand?" Any suggestions?

Sorry for the long post!

I think your asking a fair amount for it. Do you have a picture online of it?

Sounds about right for what I am looking for, but I need a smaller seat... a 14.5-15 in seat .... 450 seems to be the average price for a used one though

I wouldn't sell that saddle for less than $450. That's a very good price for nearly new. I have the same saddle and ran into the same problem that you did. The extra padded 16" seat felt a little small for me. It's a good saddle so I'm keeping it as a spare.
Have you tried tacktrader.com? It seems that a well priced trail saddle doesn't sit around there very long.

I think it's just a slow market, not your price or something wrong with the saddle. The size might be hurting you.

Thanks guys for the replies. Honestly, this saddle is just as good if not better than brand new, and I can't see taking a huge loss on it because it's "second hand" and someone thinks there must be something wrong with it or figure since it's "used" they should get it for nothing.

Thunderz- Here are some pictures of it: http://pets.webshots.com/photo/25257...02136205gfPAsc but considering the lack of interest I've had, I haven't tried a photo ad yet. The lighting in these pictures give the cordura a sort of "tan" look that looks sort of funny, that's not quite how it looks in person. A couples smudges on the leather I didn't wipe off completely. There may be a spare scrape, just light other than that everything is perfect.

cacsy- shoot! Yeah, I would recommend that you get one a size larger than your average seat if you are going to get the one with the extra padded seat. This one also has the higher cantle, though. I'll keep my eye out for ya though!

DackelMom-I think I've had the text ad on tacktrader, I may have got a couple of inquiries from there. What picture would you use (see link above) if you were to put a photo ad? OR should I get some better ones?

Wolfie- I agree, it's a bigger size seat, that's why I wish all those 16er riders realized it would fit them just fine, with the extra padding.

Thanks again for the posts!

Speaking from a person who needs the bigger seats, I do believe that you have it priced fairly. I think that right now people are busting their balls just to put food on the table and keep the lights on. So saddle upgrades, tack, etc... Is just not considered high priority right now. Just keep to your price, it is a good one, and advertise it everywhere you can. Someone will buy it.

You have some good photos to choose from. I'd use #4,5 or 7.
Good Luck!

I have an American Saddlery saddle that is identical to the Big Horn but for half the money and the company includes free shipping within the US. That's pretty hard to compete against. And not everyone likes the flex tree.
