How many of you put your saddle on like this?

How many people tie the latigo as shown in the pic and how many of you use the holes and the buckle on the cinch and latigo to hold the strap in place? When I was a kid, I never saw anyone use the holes for anything, everyone tied the latigo. Now, I see many people who just put the little metal thing (whatever the heck that is called) into the hole in the latigo and stick the end of the latigo into the leather keeper.

That is how I do it. That is how I learned since I was a kid, but I do notice that more people use the holes now. I guess because the straps are mostly the nylon now?

I learned to tie the knot like you, I never even owned a cinch with the metal thing for ages!

i have done it both ways. I have one saddle that i can use the metal thing on and another that i do the "knot' with. I guess it doesnt much matter as long as your saddle stays on!! lol But either way is correct

I use the pin and holes - easier to tighten or loosen, and no chance of myself or my horse getting stuck with the pin .

Also, in a clinic that I was in, the clinician pointed out to another rider that that small lump (from folding the latigo, as in the picture) can offset your balance a little bit, because there is a small lump under your leg. Not a huge deal, but it kinda made sense...

I use the holes. Guess that's how someone showed me when we started riding. My daughter hates that way and always ties. Guess it's just a personal preference as long as your saddle stays on!

I only tie my saddle I thought about using the hole but I seen someone with a new saddle once at a show and the hole riped and that caused a reck.. I guess I feel safer with it tied

I use the holes, that's the way I was shown to start with. Someone did try and show me the knot, but I'm happy with my way

When I had my Quarter Horses that is how I did my saddle. It was the way I was taught.

Not only do I use the buckles, I like the cinches with the double roller ends - when you use them properly, they act like a block and tackle and make it so much easier to get your cinch properly tight.

Of course, now I ride english, so it's buckle, buckle, buckle

We always use the knot but that is how my grandfather taught me and it just feels strange to buckle it. But since I have gotten older it hurts my fingers to tie the knot and I have been recently considering using the buckle instead of the tie.

I use the holes...
much easier

I don't feel as safe with the knot. I am always scared it will come loose.

Because I have an old school saddle, it's easier to do the latigo. I also find it easier to adjust like that, but maybe that's because I've been doing it for so long I'm probably used to it.

IF the cinch has a nylon tie, I use the holes, if it is leather, I tie it.
