Saddle Pad

Hi,
I am looking for a little help with getting a western saddle pad. My 6 year old is haveing some hip and back trouble. I am looking for a therapeutic/orthopedic pad that can relieve pressure off his back and spread the weight evenly. Anyone have any suggestions??

You have to make sure the saddle is a pretty good fit first.

I have used the same saddle both years I've owned him and I think it has a pretty good fit. How do you make sure it has a perfect fit?

We're a bunch of "information-aholics" here at HT!!!! Have you had your horse checked by your vet, chiro, etc??? Then, like Slim Pikkens indicated, more information would help. What type of riding do you do? What kind of saddle do you use? Are you sure your saddle fits? Does your horse have a long back, short back, broad rib cage, etc. Do you spend a lot of hours in the saddle or do you just hit the occasional trail ride? What kinds of pads have you tried? What are your horse's symptoms???

I'm sure you'll get a lot of suggestions, but some more informatioin will help steer us in the right direction.

I'm glad that you're info-aholics on here, b/c I am certainly not. I do western pleasure riding with him, just recreational no showing. I only ride about 45 min. very other day. he has not been checked by a vet or chiro, i was trying to save a little money and handle it on my own. I put him on a $60 a month supplement. . . Cosequin ASU, his hips haven't been popping lately (that has been the problem) I haven't tried any pads yet, just my normal Toklat print pad, which I LOVE! I just started looking into a new pad to help a little. I have lininmants and creams that I rub on his hips; those help. I also have a magnetic sheet that seems to help. I use a western Trainer saddle, older and worn but nice. I think he has a short back, my english horse seems to have a longer back. I haven't checked my saddle's fit, but it seems to be fine. How do you check it??

Symptoms: stiff, popping and cracking hips, sore. Most have died down a lot, though.

Thanks!
