Roping Saddle

So my finance wants a "new" to him at least Roping Saddle for his birthday but everything I find is soooo expensive does anyone have any ideas on where to find a lightly used or new roping saddle for a decent price? He also wants it to be a high back if possible and a 14.5" to a 16" that is what size he is riding right now and its a little big... he has a little butty. If anyone has a saddle for sale please post pics and I will look at them.

Mark rides on a stock yard doctoring cattle all day as a ranch manager so anything that you know of that would be more comfortable would be great also! Thanks !!!

Check out Corriente Saddle Company in New Mexico. They are inexpensive but durable. They make a buckaroo type saddle as well as roping saddles. The buckaroo has a 5" cantle I think.
Here is their website. They are good to work with. They will answer any questions that you have. http://www.corrientesaddleco.com/
The other option would be to find a good used name brand saddle.

I know what's its like to pinch pennies I really do, but I have to suggest that if he's spending all day in a saddle then make him save up and get a really good one. Even used a good one will cost you, but it will save you money in the long run by not wearing out and it will save you too in that he will be in a much better mood at the end of the day if his tiny booty is not all sore from being stuck in a cheap saddle all day.

Shucks!!! Sirita 88! I wish I had known.
Yah I know it sucks to pinch pennies but he does really need a new saddle and so I have been secertly putting a little bit of money aside every month so I could afford a saddle for his b-day and at the rate and prices it may be his christmas present also...

Gypsy-love that website and i will be calling Wayne Baize tomorrow to get pricing because I can't find any on the website but all of their feedback says they are affordable and dependable.

Check out the Cactus line of ropers. Very well made and built to last, plus they're darn comfy. Made by a saddlemaker who used to work for Martin I believe (don't quote me though)

Otherwise save your pennies and get a Martin or similar, you'll never regret it.

National Ropers Supply and Smith Brothers often have used saddles for sale or on consignment. All come with a thorough inspection for soundness.

What part of Texas are you in? What kind of price range is he looking for?
Corriente saddles aren't expensive but they aren't cheap saddles. My husband has one that has been abused and looks awful but is still a solid saddle. He's had it about 6 years but it looks old. It is a rough out buckaroo and it has been wet multiple times and not taken the best care of. It is comfortable and has held up great.
We also have some saddles from Sulpher River Saddlery in Hagansport, Texas. They are good saddles also but aren't as inexpensive as the Corrientes.

I love National Ropers Supply - you might even find a good used Billy Cook - to me, they can't be beat.. (except for mine - I have a custom made that fits my fat little hinny perfectly)..

It is well worth the extra to get a good one that will last him for years.

I am in Bryan - College station area and I was hoping to stay around or under the $800.00 range! But most of the really nicely built roping saddles are at least $1200

You can definitely get a Corriente for that or a little less and that is delivered to your door. You should also be able to find a good used name brand saddle for that if you shop around.
I'm not from Texas, but we go there frequently but not your area. There are some good shops in the Pilot Point area that have a nice selection of new and used saddles. (Along with lots of other tack and things to look at-I get in trouble when we go there. )

I have an older Simco roper that I could ride in all day altho it doesn't have a high cantle. Sure got thick leather tho and a stout horn. It's for sale. Never been roped off, just trail ridden.

Thanks for all the ideas! I am at work now but I will be talking to Wayne in New Mexico about custom making a new saddle this evening. If anyone else has any ideas please post them because if I can find something cheaper I am definately game.

STK-make sure the saddle has a rawhide wrapped tree. I'm not sure the circle Y has one. There is no D ring for holding a rope strap. Just because a horn is wrapped doesn't make it a roper. The one from Alberta, I dunno, dicey. If this saddle was they quality they want us to believe, the saddle would price at $2000 or better. Why should it be such a bargain just because it's advertised on the internet?
There is very little difference in dollar exchange right now but your dollar has the edge.
I've checked the saddles out and there is one roper I'd even consider, 5490, with the horse wearing a bosal. But I'd want a close-up of the saddle. The others are mainly trail saddles and not built for roping despite the claims.

I ordered the Corriente Wade Saddle and I am so happy with it prices are so great and great quality saddles. The 15" roping wade saddle with bucking rolls mailed to my door was $650.00. I highly recommend them.

Wish I would of found this earlier! Brad has a billy cook and a hereford roping saddle, both really good shape, but they are size 15 seat and he's ummm...... Outgrown it Not good when the belly starts touching the horn....

I'd say I need to quit feeding the boy, but I don't cook so.... Hmmm... Maybe that means I should start to cook, then after he see's how awful it is, he'll be losing wieght and on a good diet in no time!
