single leg strap????

I got a new rainsheet for my one gelding last week at a trade show, great price.

well when i got it home to try it on him, it fit nicely, but there is only ONE leg strap, and only 2 D rings which are on the back.

there are NO side D rings at all!!! anywhere, i looked!!!! (since sometimes some blankets have them up underneath.

so my question is, with the Ds just at the back like that, do i kitty-corner the single leg strap between his hind legs, or do i let it hang like a tail rope connected to each of the Ds but hanging across the back between the bottom of his butt and his hocks??

i have NEVER seen a blanket like this, now i am wishing i had checked it closer before buying it

It goes under his tail, attached to each side. I don't prefer this kind either, but I normally just take the hind strap off and they work well that way. If you leave it on, it works, it just get a little, umm, shall we say, dirty!

OK thats what i thought it was, like a tail rope.

weird though that i have never seen one before with actual straps and snaps, its usually just a rope.

i can believe it gets pretty gross, i think i will take it in and have Ds put on the sides when i take my winter blankets in to be cleaned.

thanks for the speedy response!!

That hind strap is there for a reason....to keep the blanket from blowing over (and off) your horse. Most horses turn their tails to the wind when it blows. Without the hind strap the blanket can blow up and over your horse.

I just had this happen recently with my Rambo. The tail strap broke and the blanket blew over my horse and she must have stepped out of it. It was found out in the pasture. Glad she didn't get hung up in it.

Some Centaurs Have this. They work well but are there for a reason if your worried about it. Take it in and add the feature. Does it have belly straps that cross??? or is it just one right behind the front legs. If it has the belly straps that cross i would just keep the tail strap. It will work great this way.

But like I said if your worried take it in like you mentioned above.

it does have crossed belly straps (i dont like single belly strap blankets, they just dont seem to stay in place that well)

he has worn it for a few days now and by the looks of it has OBVIOUSLY rolled quite a bit in it, so far the strap isnt gunked up with poop (YET) and the blanket is staying in place nicely. so it must be doing its job, i had just never seen a blanket like this before, im just so used to the double leg straps.
