Weight of featherlite trailer?

Since the subject of trailers came up in another discussion... I have been looking for a new trailer and I wanted to know if anyone knew how much a featherlite model 8541 weighed (3-horse version). A trailer guy told us that our new dodge ram 1500 would be able to pull it, but I am not so sure. On one website a guy said it weighed around 3850 pounds, which would be great, but I am a little skeptical....

According to Featherlite's brochure (you can download it in Acrobat format here: http://www.featherlitemfg.com/brochures.cfm ) The maximum axel weight of the 3 and 4 horse gooseneck model # 8541 is 5200 lbs - x2 for a max trailer weight (loaded) of 10,400 lbs.

Given that, I would imagine that 3,000 lbs wouldn't be too far off the mark for the trailer empty. Add 3 average sized horses (3 x 1200 lbs, or 3600lbs) and a few hunderd pounds for tack and feed and the whole rig not including the truck would be around 7,000 lbs.

You could call a dealer, I get the feeling that the actual wieght of any specific trailer would depend heavily on the amount and type of options you got on it.

loaded.....in the hills of tennessee.....no, any 3 horse will be too much for a 1/2 ton truck.

if you stick with truck....go 2h trailer

if you go 3h trailer.....3/4 ton would be much better and safer

Well a used car guy told me the buick rainer (not really my style but I needed an SUV and something that can pull a trailer) he wanted to sell me would pull my 2 horse stock/combo with a dressing room........cause he was a used car dealer trying to sell me a vehicle..... and NO it wouldnt pull it.
umm but then again he made more off of me when I went for a tahoe instead.

I pull a 3horse stock slant w/tack room at 2800 lbs minus the horses with my grand cherokee, which has the motor size of a Ford F-150. I do have an electric brake, but I live in Michigan so I don't have the hills you have.

horsedreamsx3, The cheapest I have seen the featherlite 3h gooseneck was 15,200, for some reason I found it cheaper new than what the used ones are going for. But most of 'em go for about 18-19000 brand new. I was thinking about getting a featherlite because you can finance them or do a lease to own, which is always a great thing. Besides, Most slant loads I have seen are 38" wide in the stalls, but the featherlite model is 42".

I would have to agree with RON 110%..... 2h BP 150/1500 would be OK.. bigger get a 3/4 ton and then when you get to a fairly large trailer a one ton!!!

See if you can find an 2006 Featherlite. Ours was a new 2006 that had sat on the lot for awhile. The salesman said the newer but still 2006 models they had purchased later were higher due to the price of aluminum going up in the interim.
