He's chewing his happy mouth bit.

I switched Lestat's bit from a metal snaffle to a happy mouth snaffle. He tried to fight me with the reuglar bit, so I thought maybe he just doesn't like the metal.

Well he accepts the happy mouth, and actually looks to put it in his mouth. But his new thing that he started recently was to chew on the bit. He took a chunk out of the plastic, not too big, but big enouigh to see and for me to be annoyed.

Is this common with a happy mouth? I was told that once the horse started to chew them you shouldn't use them anymore. Or is that when they get really chewed up?

Any suggestions on what to do?

This is not the one I have, mine is an eggbutt snaffle.

Yeah, it's pretty common.

I started horses in a rubber mouth racing dee and they always got chewed up too...

It won't hurt him and until it's really missing large chunks ( from experience here) keep using it.
Don't worry about it, just buy a couple extra.

Usually they only chew through the happy mouth is if either it isn't fitting properly or they need their teeth done.

I wouldn't use the bit if it is really chewed...the rough edges will make it a more severe bit.
